Android Market instead of SlideMe

my build number is 2.73.728.5

I think I'm going prematurely senile.... I can't remember if x.728.x is 'flashable' or not. I think it is.... Trying won't hurt it though, even if it has the 'fixed' bootloader.

Are there links that I can find to do the procedures you mentioned above?
Installing the patched recovery image

Available ROMs (choose one of the HTC Generic 2.73.405.x builds)

Hopefully ones that will talk me through the process so I don't mess up the phone
You can't permanently damage or kill the handset doing this, trust me. ;) Especially as the recovery image allows you to backup the entire device before installing the new ROM, so if you're not happy with it you'll be able to restore to exactly how it was prior to the update.

Thanks for your help - unfortunately I can't even make the command prompt to work to get the thing started, everytime I try it, the prompt says "cannot find the path specified" - obviously I will have to find an IT guy or someone with more skills than me to even start the process....

It is dead easy once you know how.

From the above I assume that you have downloaded adb and opened the command prompt. It my guess that you have not opened the prompt in the correct directory.

If you have downloaded adb to say downloads in my documents you will just need the "cd" command (change directory), your command should read something like:

cd/my documents/downloads/

You can also use the dir command which will lost your directories, then use the cd command to select one from the list.
dir
cd/my documents
dir
cd/downloads

Then just copy and paste Paul's commands.

Hope this helps.

hello and i apologize for jumping in on the conversation but i think it maybe similar to what im trying to do
my friend purchased a craig 7" android netbook for her 10 yr thinking that the android market would be easily accesible for apps.i did find the SlideME Marketplace on the netbook it isnt responding apparently because the site is down. As far as i understand that is the android marketplace for the netbook. but ofcourse it doesnt work. i was wondering if an update was necessary to use it. so i went to the craigelectronic.com but it just keeps stating that the update failed. what can i do this poor kid cant use his christmas gift .................... i am unable to figure out how to download even the most common apps for the netbook. i am thinking its just not possible. while doing research i saw some things about rooting. I am just a little confused, if a different os can be rooted to be used as an android phone is it then possible to root the netbook so it acts like a tablet? and if so how? also would it just be easier to return and the netbook and just pick up a tablet?
is it possible to change the rom on the netbook without ruining the netbook?
also while researching the issue i found people on yahoo answers with the same issue is this because of where it was manufactured or because it is a cheap netbook?
What would be the easiest solution?
