Hello Friends,
I just received my X, after having a Dinc since launch. Just thought I would share my impressions since I know there are a lot of Dinc people on the fence.
First, I will say, that either way... you can't go wrong. Both are fantastic phones and for a while, I was torn. I still am torn, but one thing that is going to win the X for me, is the screen size and keyboard size.
When I first booted the phone, I thought "OH NO! This thing sucks! It is all laggy!" But, after the update and letting it sit to do all of its syncing and what not, the thing works fine. The "stuttering" or lag, I think, is over exaggerated by some. Yes, it isn't quite as smooth as the Dinc, but it isn't so bad that it is bothersome, to me anyway.
The next biggest thing I noticed was the colors. This is where the Dinch shines, as we are all aware. I just wanted to echo what others have reported, that the colors on the X are not as vibrant or deep as the Dinc, and may be a bit washed out. However, the screen is still fantastic and after a few hours of NOT looking at the Dinc, I have grown quite accustomed to it and it is just fine.
Thirdly, it seems to me that the X's speaker is quieter than the Dinc's. And I thought the Dinc's was quiet. So, this might be a small issue for me, but it isn't enough to kill the deal.
Call quality. It has been said before, and for me it is true, but the call quality on my X far exceeds my Dinc. I am not sure why, it is what it is.
Signal strength. I get full bars in my house on the X, with 2-3 on he Dinc, but when looking at actual strength in the status, they are both just about the same, with the X being slightly better.
Construction quality. To me, the X feels better built. The Dinc's plastic battery cover feels what it is, cheap, in comparison. Plus, my Dinc squeaks. To me, that is a sign of inferior construction. However, a little piece of paper under the battery cover solved that and it wasn't much of a bother.
Hard buttons vs touch buttons. The touch buttons are hands down, far better in my opinion. I hate the buttons on the X, but I am getting used to them now and soon won't be a bother. They take a considerable amount of force compared to my original droid, but again, I am getting used to it.
Finally, screen size. When I was comparing phones side by side, it was a toss up for me. Both are awesome pieces of tech, and their individual con's weren't enough to sway me one way or the other. But, that giant screen on the X won me over in the end. I don't have to zoom web pages on it and I have far fewer errors with the generously spaced keyboard on the X. Yes, sometimes I have to 2 hand things because of the size, but that isn't really a bother.
Anyway, hope that helps some others on the fence. I apologize for the length.
