GPS Issues - Anyone else concerned

Is anyone else concerned that the Vibrant and Captivate forums are reporting GPS issues, as well as the overseas model(s)?

I'm worried this is more than a firmware issue. If it's the chipset I wonder if it could cause Verizon to "fail" the device and therefore never offer it. I suppose it could also make them go back and tell Samsung to fix it, but wouldn't that take quite some time (replacing, testing, etc.).

I just wanted to throw it out for discussion. I actually really like the time I've spent with the Captivate though AT&T is just not the carrier for me. So I was looking very forward to seeing the Fascinate on Verizon. However this GPS issue concerns me. I know Samsung has said they are looking to fix it, but they haven't confirmed it is for sure just a firmware fix.

I believe CDMA devices use a different kind of GPS chip then GSM ones so I don't believe this problem would affect Fascinate and Epic users the same way. I am sure though it's a software issue. I think at worst it just means we might not see the Fascinate until later in September but I am still hoping for late Aug/early Sep.

I'm guessing you're not familiar with what happened to the Samsung Omnia II last year? Not sure if we ever knew what the fatal issue was, but the phone was FCC approved at the end of June last year and actually got re-approved in the late October, early November timeframe before finally getting released in December by Verizon. Nearly 6 months from original FCC approval to release is unheard of, not to mention the need to re-approve which means something major was changed in the hardware that required it to be certified again. So, could Verizon make Samsung go back and fix it? Yep, they did it before. Would it take quite some time? Yep, it sure would.
