Just saw this on Unrevoked Twitter feed. Thought you all would like to know!

"A warning: the SkyRaider for the inc has a higher then average chance of causing "USB bricked" devices, we will try to work on a fix."

Here is the link to the twitter page for those who would like to follow.

Unrevoked (unrevoked) on Twitter

updated tweet: "@unrevoked: Sorry if our last tweet sounded a little disastrous, we're working with the author of SkyRaider to resolve these issues."

It would make a lot of sense if they were able to elaborate further in order to sustantiate such an statement, that is if we take into consideration the probable high number of these particular ROM users as of today.......

I know.... I questioned posting it, but I would rather post to warn and be wrong then have someones phone become a brick. Hopefully its resolved soon.

Wait... Are the Unr3voked and SkyRaider guys the same guys? Seems to me there's next to no reason to run Unr3voked once you've already got SkyRaider installed since you need root to install it.

Not sure if they are the same guys, but considering the tweet, it would make sense. As for the cause of the issue, here is some info from the skyraider thread over on XDA.....

"The tweet has nothing to do with unrevoked's releases.

The skyraider rom appears to use a slightly broken update-binary. When you flash skyraider rom, it writes stuff to misc that it shouldn't, as far as I can tell. This may cause a USB brick (ie, phone is not accessible via USB)"

Skyraider Rom Thread: [ROM] Sky Raider 2.2 [Sense or Vanilla!!!] UPDATED: 08/05/2010 - xda-developers

Keep in mind, many many people have flashed the skyraider rom without any issues.

I installed the latest vanilla skyraider, didn't like it so I wiped it and then put on the aiccus ROM. When I attach my phone to my computer it will not bring up the SD card or internal storage in my computer. Instead it brings up a CD drive. In the USB tray icon it still shows two removable disks and the CD drive does skip the letters that were assigned to those two drives. I can still take screenshots of the phone using the SDK.

I think this is the brick, if it's not I'd appreciate someone telling me how I can get my computer to recognize the phone again.

My D-INC hasn't talked USB to Snow Leopard since I put Sky Raider 2.2 on it (Leopard is fine, but I need SL for other work, so this makes Android dev very awkward). I since upgraded to 3.5 and USB is still hosed.

Since 3.5, my phone has been resistant to flashing other ROMs, too. HBoot won't do it, Clockwork install won't do it, etc. ROM Manager and most other apps crash on launch. I used ROM Manager to install 3.5, I didn't think it was possible to mess up the installation, but this is me, so...

Was there ever a fix to the USB issue? I could really use it! Thanks :)
