The Sea of Tranquility
I'm going to roll the dice and go for Moment #3 to see if I can get one with an acceptable gps. The current one has weak reception and the gps has quit receiving for days at a a stretch, making it completely unusable for navigation. My first Moment's GPS died too. I'll be paying a visit to the local Sprint repair center in the AM so I flashed back to stock un rooted 2.1 for the first time in months. All I can say is....EWWWW!
I want to meet the person that thought the flower was an acceptable choice for the default wallpaper. Did I mention EWWWW!

Hopefully, I'm not trading a weak gps for more cdma lockups. I had 3 6700, 5 Moguls and 2 Touch Pro's. All were replaced under warranty for common hardware flaws/failures. I'm gentile with my equipment, but you'd never know it from that record. I'd really love to get a smartphone that lived up to its potential and actually lasted the length of the contract.

Of course, the gps started working again right before I got there. The tech would only use Sprint nav to test and only while standing in a open parking lot. He refused to compare it with any other phone. According to him, it worked fine. I even offered to take him on a drive to show him how the gps looses signal at any obstruction and is late on almost every turn. Eventually, I got him to agree to order me a replacement as a consideration. I just hope the replacement phone's better than what I've got. With my luck, it will suffer from bad lockup, which also won't happen either when I take it in. I keep seeing alll the "my gps works great" posts....I want that, but I'll just take "my gps works dependably".

^ i legitamately havent had any issue with sprint nav going all around central jersey, to and fron NYC (tho i did lose signal in the lincoln tunnel lol but gained it again upon emergence) also have used it in eastern PA with absolutley no issues. does hiccup and want to redirect a bunch of times but after a min or 2 it is usually right on track again.

I use GPS test. At it's best, my phone will "see" no more than 7 sats and the snr (proprietary to the program scale) will be no greater than 20 of 100 (highest I've ever seen is 24) or so. In my backyard with slight tree and 2 story house obstructions, the moment will see no better than 3 sats, my cheap 3yr old Pharos PNA see's 12. Every minute or so, the phone will lose all the sats and require them one at a time. I've played with a number of Moments and none were significantly better. About a month ago, the gps stopped seeing sats altogether for extended periods. I already had a swap because the gps stopped working in the pre cl14 days. I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon, so I'd like to get a decent working model before stock is gone and they start offering phones like the Intercept for swap.

Picked up my replacement a hour ago. What a difference! From seeing 3 sats in the backyard to seeing 8 in my living room. I've played with quite a few different Moments and all had similar gps performance to my first two units, this one is different. I would have to surmise that there are a lot of bad Moments out there. I still don't know how this one will do lockup wise, but it's a massive improvement gps wise. FWIW, this unit came in a generic refurb box, but it doesn't have a refurb sticker inside the battery compartment like my previous refurbed winmo phones. The phone still had the little Qualcomm sticker and the keyboard is tight like a brand new phone. Either Sprint has dramatically changed their refurb process since my previous Mogul's and Touch Pro's, or this is a brand new phone. Providing this one doesn't lockup any worse than my previous Moment, I can live with it for quite a while.

Good luck! My 2nd Moment lasted all of a week before the problems started happening again, and getting worse by the day.

Still waiting to hear back from the supervisor's supervisor in Customer Retention. If they refuse to replace the phone I'm demanding to be let out of our contract early for their failure to live up to their end of the contract. I love Sprint service, but this phone is garbage and their customer service so far isn't much to write home about.
