Accessories Seidio 3500mah battery won't charge properly in my evo?

I got the seidio 3500mah battery on thursday. I charged it up and it took two days to kill it. When I got home from work today I plugged it in and it charged to the green light in about 1:45 which I knew wasn't right so I turned it off and it started charging again and the light turned green in about 40 min. I turned it back on and the battery was only at 96% wtf? So I let it charge to green again and as soon as I unplug it the battery drops to 98%. The battery is in an external battery charger right now so I know it will get a full charge.

Is the charging bug in the evo THAT bad? Will I always have to remove this battery to charger it? Is something wrong with my battery? Anyone else having any problems like this with the seidio 3500mah battery?

I really like this battery but having to remove it every time I need to recharge it is a PITA!

Saw this after googleing your battery. Did you do this? I didn't think new cell phone batteries worked like that anymore, but they do warn about it.

"In order to obtain the full capacity of your Seidio battery, we highly recommend that you leave the battery/your phone on the charger for an additional 2-3 hours after the charging indicator turns green or the battery status show."

My extended battery has been working great! I use a CallPod to charge all my phones and accessories. I'd recommending calling Seidio - they have great customer service. It may just be a bad battery.

I charged my 3500 when I first got it for my EVO from 5pm to 6am the next day just to make sure that it fully charged the first time. It works great and always fully charges. I bought one for my Hero and did not let it charge for the extra two to three hours after the light turns green and when I charged it for the second time it would only charge up to 96%. So charge longer on your first charge and your new batt will work great.

I charged it overnight for the first charge. It charged for over 8 hours

Novarider I haven't had mine long enough to know If I have that problem, but I do know the 3500seidio charged a lot faster in The phone then on the separate charger and it charged faster then my 1500mahs which doesn't make sense. Have you tried doing the charge till green with phone on then turn off and charge till green trick? There is a bunch of info on that in the forum.

For my 1750 mah battery Seidio said to charge that bad boy for about 11 hours with the phone turned OFF upon receipt of the battery. I did that and I didn't have any problems. So in my opinion, you would have needed to charge your phone for almost an entire day for the battery to reach its full capacity since its a 3500mah battery. The green indicator light on your phone will tell you the phone is fully charged when you are initializing (first charging) your battery. You have to ignore the green light and continue to charge the battery because lithium ion batteries will lie to you upon its first charge. The battery will say its full when its not upon that first charge. You have to fully charge a lithium ion battery so it reaches it maximum charging capacity on that initial charge. If not, you mess up where the battery thinks it has reached its maximum charge.

i don't have an extended battery, but i do know that your evo records battery stats. its basically a calibration of how the battery meter reads how full the battery is and how long it charges. it may take a few charge/discharge cycles for your phone to calibrate to this newer larger battery capacity.


i'm no expert, just food for thought. if you are rooted you can go into recovery and wipe your battery stats to start off fresh.

it lasts me all day and night with extremely heavy use (my phone is my office and is usually in my hand at all times).

This is Day 2 for me and the battery has only been a bit better than my original. After taking it off the charger both days the charge would go from 100% to 90 then 80 within 30 minutes without much phone use. I sent a message to tech support earlier today.

I plugged in my phone when it hit about 12% left tonight. When you said to run it down. Do we need to run it all the way down till the phone shuts off? How many days did you start seeing a difference in longer battery life?

I did the recommended break in steps as well.

Drain as in let it run til it's 0%? I was under the impression you are not suppose to let any modern day batteries drain to 0%. I read this is very bad for these types of batteries. It may even shorten the life of the battery or ruin it.



That is not to say that lithium-ion batteries are flawless. They have a few disadvantages as well:

• They start degrading as soon as they leave the factory. They will only last two or three years from the date of manufacture whether you use them or not.
• They are extremely sensitive to high temperatures. Heat causes lithium-ion battery packs to degrade much faster than they normally would.
• If you completely discharge a lithium-ion battery, it is ruined.
• A lithium-ion battery pack must have an on-board computer to manage the battery. This makes them even more expensive than they already are.
• There is a small chance that, if a lithium-ion battery pack fails, it will burst into flame.

I just got the 3500, and I've tried to charge it overnight (twice). It charges to about 64% (both times). Then, all charging lights go off. No orange light, no green light.

Has anyone seen this?

Update: My battery did get better over the span of two weeks. But, I did not feel that it was charging all the way as it would drop from 100% to 80% over 1 hour then slow down from there. I contacted tech support twice via email and no response. I just returned it and will wait till they work out the bugs with either the battery or the phone. Ken98045, My charge always showed green.

If you charge it with an external charger you will get much better battery life

External charger is definitely the way to go with this. I am very close to 4 hours off the external charger and I am at 94%. Yes, very very light use but it's not the big drop off you would see from using the phone charger.
