HTC Desire - 2.2 Update Manual Update?

Hello! I feel dumb.

I have the HTC Desire unlocked here in the US. I'm using AT&T as my network, and everything works fine.

I do not want to root my phone.

I want the upcoming Froyo 2.2 update, and I have seen that it is soon available for Vodafone. This confuses me. I am wondering -- will HTC release the new OS on their website, and I can just download and install it myself?

Is your phone branded? If not, the update should be available if you go to "CHECK FOR UPDATES" in settings.

If you do manage to download it and get RUU with it, then I think you can apply it manualy.

Search the forum, I'm sure there are threads called froyo RUU..

Well now that 2.2 is more official for the desire, surely I can do this an easier way?

I keep checking "Prefs > About Phone > System software Updates > Check Now", but it never works...

Will it ever work? Remember I am on AT&T here in the states... although it is an unlocked phone.

Also depends on what you mean by 'unlocked'

Unbranded = original HTC ROM (not network specific), updates from HTC not your network provider.

Debranded = network specific ROM with all network branding removed, but it is still network specific and needs an update issued by your network provider.

Unlocked = phone can use any SIM card from any network; ROM can be either be branded, unbranded or debranded.

Im on 02 in the UK, apparently sept 9th froyo will be mine, i have already posted about this , 02 have unlocked my phone,but i still can't get the update from HTC, expect this discussion to be moved or deleted soon , mine did the other day !
