Root GalaxHero v1.1 and Recovery v4.3 are out!

What happens when android 2.0 is released for the phone? Will drakaz have to rebuild the whole thing?

And yes, i do mean "when". Yes samsung's customer support has been woefully quiet, but they are a successful global company and im sure all to well aware of what would happen if they didnt support the phone into the future, so i am v confident 2.0 will come, albeit not for a couple months.

Couple of notes...

- Quickdroid and some other useless samsung apps are still there. Use the clearapps.sh script to clean up
- debuggerd is still running, clearapps.sh will do it
- the vnc server option is broken. do an 'adb remount' and edit /etc/galaxo.conf manually to set vnc=no

The kernel doesnt have the framebuffer tweak so the total free memory is still 95mb on the gpu one. I guess all that stuff will be in galaxo instead of galaxohero!

Is there a summary of what's different from the standard firmware? I have a long list of things I'd like to be different but I don't know if it's worth completely resetting my phone. If there's not a list can someone tell me if any of the following are improved in Galaxhero 1.1?

- IMAP Email client does not do signatures
- Cannot change the button press time to bring the phone out of sleep
- WiFi usually does not connect without resetting it
- No easy way to kill processes
- No way to navigate/find Contacts except scrolling
- Camera app stinks
- Battery life is so-so with 3G
- No flash in browser
- Many many minor settings are not changeable in Settings or Spare Parts

GalaxHero is not a a light version, but a full, with all app. Look at galaxo to have a very lightest rom.
The rom's stock kernel doesn't have the fb tweak because i don't want people that hurt me about 3D, without reading how to restore it, so, i prefer people flash their boot with a kernel with/without gpu, after installing Galaxo/GalaxHero.

Thanks kam for the advice about VNC, will look at :)

I got it running. Thanks so much for your work everyone. I had to troll a few forums to remember all the steps between the steps but it looks good. Certainly snappier.

I have a few questions:

I am still downloading the HTC file. It is taking a long time. So I got impatient and did everything else. What does it do? Is there a problem installing it later? (I'm assuming the libhgl step was the one because that one failed.)

What to do with the other 2 files that came with galaxhero, gpu and no_gpu?

And I can't get the cool clock widget. Android market says it can't find it.

Is bluetooth improved? Can I exchange files with other phones? Any apps that will help?

And finally, is there any app or tweak to improve/speed-up the unlock time? I know it's just a couple of seconds but it still bugs me a bit.

Thanks in advance

Yeah, you can do it later.

What to do with the other 2 files that came with galaxhero, gpu and no_gpu?

Look at the how to/changelog on first post on hdblog

And I can't get the cool clock widget. Android market says it can't find it.

Search "Weather Widget on the market"

No.

No. But you can use another unlock app like unlock 2

Hi All ,
Got stuck on installing G.apps with V4.2 so gave up then ,now I have tried with V4.3 all went fine until I tried to Restore G.apps and I still get the same message: " Restore aborted :see/tmp/recovery.log" anyone with any ideas before I wipe and restore backup and give up again !!!

Yea, I had the same issue. Please read Rastaman's reply to my post. He explained what it's about. Make sure you have ii5.tar on your sdcard. RECTOOLS 4.3 uses that tarball to extract google apps.

Thanks Sreamingbug for the reply I had read your post already I do'nt think it's quite the same. I have II5.tar on the internal sd card ,I have followed the instructions to the letter taking all of today to make sure. I think my next move will be to reformat the sd card and start a new perhaps next Sunday :(

Reflash the recovery.img (4.3 version) using fastboot. A few things have changed ;)
I had a 4.0 recovery image and had the same problems.

Thanks Tisti,
But as I mentioned in my first post I am trying with V 4.3 as I thourght the Gapps bug was fixed with this version, but not for me evidently. That's why I was thinking of cleaning the phone out and starting from a clean base, it's just time taking for me and I was hoping for an easyer solution.

Sorry for being annoying :)

Are you sure you didn't just replace the RECTOOLS.tar.gz on the sdcard or did you also reflash the recovery.img? You have to reflash it.

Get the II5 image from here, it works:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-i7500/13692-how-odin-galexo-rom-s.html

Your II5.tar might be different (I know mine was and it can have some operator customizations in it)

wow tisti your 1.0 galaxo was flashed with recovery 4.0?
it was superseded to 4.1 within days due to issues with it. i would have changed that time ago as 4.1 and 4.2 was a requirement for 1.0 rom

ahh well i should have put in the step by step update to flash the recovery.img aswell for those who had not updated to 4.2 recovery earlier on
