This vs. The palm pre

Just wondering on what the general opinion was on these two phones. I have a pre and I'm wondering if I made a mistake, haha. Its decent, but nothing more, imo.

i got rid of my pre for this phone, and to be honest, the pre blows. this phone is infinitely better. the only thing the pre had on this phone was push email, but i set my refresh to every hour and that is sufficient for my purposes. other than that, this phone just kills the pre.

As a previous Pre owner....WebOS is fantastic the multitasking abilities the Pre has are untouchable...however, build quality is suspect, battery life is atrocious compared to the HERO, not to mention there is barely any marketplace for applications and development.

the HERO is vastly Superior to the Pre in most every way. The Pre is a damn good phone, but after spending time with the HERO, i am completely satisfied in switching.

Very nice...I like the sounds of that. Well, if all goes well I may be able to switch to Verizon and get the rumored passion, if its soon, if not the droid. But if I must stay with sprint and I get no word of new android phones, then I'll gladly ,ake the switch o the hero. One question, though...does it lag while typing with the virtual keyboard? I, a big texter, so its important.

The virtual keyboard takes about a week to fully adapt.
Once you turn off haptic feedback (vibration/Sound) It has minor visual lag, but if you keep pressing the keys it catches up no problem. Word prediction on this phone is also fantastic making up for any perceivable lag. It appears that its lagging but realistically its searching for possible words or mispellings. I can type just as fast on my hero as I did on my HTC Touch Pro. Hope this helps.

not that i've noticed. if u just type away, it gets what u need. the auto correct is pretty damn good. also, a couple guys on here own both the hero and droid, and the consensus is that hero>droid. the sense interface is wonderful, and eclair will really take this phone to new heights (which it hasn't done crap for the droid).

Amazing! All this info is incredible! So I just think I'll ditch the hopes of switching to verizon and keep sprint, but upgrade to the hero. Hopefully it won't cost too much...used my upgrade on the pre.

Just call sprint and tell them you are not happy and considering the switch to big red. See if they will reset your rebate if you tell them that will get you to stay. I've heard of it working before, from my own earpiece. :)

That sounds like a fantastic idea, and I'm all for it, except the account is in my mom's name. Do you think they would heed my idle threats or would I have to get her to say something herself?

This may not work for you then... You have no sway to the sprint people if it is your moms account.

A like new PRE sells for over $200 on ebay to help recoupe costs. Only thought I had left.

I'm glad I made the switch to the Hero from the Pre. I too was questioning this at first. I don't have any regrets. I got $202.50 out of my Pre on Ebay. Also, IMO I would never leave Sprint for anything that Verizon offered unless they start to come down to meet the Sprint plans. Sprint service in my area is great. I have traveled with Sprint service also and have never had any problems with service that were out of the oridinary compared to any other provider I've used.

u just need to be authorized to make account decisions, doesn't matter if its in her name. can you make changes to the account?

I don't know about that, but this might not be necessary. I forgot that my mom isn't as fickle about phones as I am, so I'm willing to bet she has an upgrade I can steal. I'll just sell my pre on ebay for about $200 to cover the costs.

I have a pre, and a hero. I loved the pre, just wished the build quality of the phone was better. And even tho the keyboard was small, I like typing on a physical keyboard much better than typing on a screen. The pre is quick and responsive imo. And after the last update it did almost everything I wanted it to do. I love webos, Multitasking on it can not be beat, and I miss that part of the phone a whole lot. Its easy to use, and never had any issues with it....except I kept dropping it, I believe it was due to how the phone was curved, slick plastic and became top heavy when slid open. But if Palm makes a better version of the Pre, I might get it. WebOS is a new system, we all have to remember that, and they havent even released full access thru the SDK yet. The palm pre has great capabilities that havent been unleashed yet, and when they are I believe the pre will be a great phone. Dont get me wrong though, I love Android, as it stands right now, Android and the Hero Have Palm and the Pre Beat, in every category except ease of multitasking....and thats what I miss most. But lack of customizing capabilities and over all build is what made me go get a hero, I have had multiple HTC phones and know they make good stuff so I fifured I couldnt lose......Now if only we can hurry up and get Android 2.0 already

If you got lost in translation. The pre is a GREAT PHONE! Simplistic and easy as heck to use. But....If you are on these forums, most likely you care a little bit more about personalizing and customizing....And for that reason...you should be on an android phone.

I switched to Sprint for the Pre, got it a few days after launch. I liked the phone, had no issues with build quality, liked the keyboard, but it just didn't do what I wanted it to. I like being able to customize a main screen like I could do with WinMo to have calendar info and access to other programs, but with fewer lockups. The homebrews were good, but frequently amateurish and unpolished. I switched to the Hero and kept my Pre just in case I wanted to go back. I love the customization and reliability of the Hero. Tomorrow I will sell my Pre to a girl in the office, I have no intention of going back.

I ownwd the pre and it was the best phone i ever had, best web, no flash but extremely smooth, and about 15 seconds faster than the hero at loading web pages. I switched to the hero because whilf the operating systwm is unbe/ievable. The hardware was pathetic. Some people have said they had no problems, i wish i could say that, within 4 days the slider had alot of play, it was after i slept with it in my pocket, wich is gonna happen sometime, and i noticed a very bad screen distortion when it was warm, like 2 youtube videos warm, whit spots on my screen, and lastly after a second pre, i never could get through a youtube video without it sťoping to buffer, although videos are super sharp. I had full bars 3g if anyone was thinking it. Its like they made it to sharp for tue phone to buffer properly. I went to hero, hardware is great, youtube video quality is poor bit it always buffers ok...go figure...web is slower but does currently have flash, thats cool. And the future for android is brighter. If palm makes a webos phone thats biilt solid i would have to consider where the hero was at at that point, it would be tough...but i love my sexxy ass hero ;-)

Funny, I just sold my Pre today for $225 on Craigslist. Got the Hero last week and like another poster stated, will not look back. I too loved the Pre...multitasking was phenomenal. This is actually my 2nd time getting rid of the Pre. I sold it for the BB Tour when it first came out. Went back to the Pre two days later and I was a loyal BB user. The Pre blew it away hands down! I held on to my Pre for a week for that reason alone...just in case I wouldn't like the Hero. I had the Pre on CL 2 days after getting the Hero. TO ME it is a much better machine than the Pre, which only has the WEBOS to speak of. Coming from the Pre and their pathetic bunch of non-descript apps (yeah I know it's new and all) which almost NONE are free....but when I opened up the Android Market I was like Charlie in the Chocolate factory! Apps galore....FREE apps galore....USEFUL apps galore. I am a customization freak so the ability to add, delete, add widgets, shortcuts etc to SEVEN SCREENS blew me away! I STILL haven't gone thru the entire market yet. I am not a big game player, but I have 12 games on my hero and enjoy them all. Tethering....Wow. PDAnet does a wonderful job for me and the phone doesn't have to be rooted to use it. Everything on the Pre that was useful was homebrew related. Palm JUST added text forwarding. Without homebrew MANY people would have BEEN gotten rid of the Pre. I had just downloaded their video cam that MANY people were clamoring for (which was patched as well). While it was ok, you couldn't see what you were recording! Then sometime, it wouldn't record at all although it would say recording. Palm is really slipping and I really do fear that if they don't hurry up and do something drastic, they are going to lose a ton of users. Android is right below Apple in it's development and it's gaining momentum with 2.0 around the corner.

I had an instinct when they first came out so I am used to the virtual keyboard, but the auto-correct feature is amazing on the hero. Just come CLOSE to the word you are trying to type and it's there for you. I am a power texter and have not regretted the virtual keyboard whatsoever. Fact is, I had the moment 2 days before I got the Hero (I ordered both an hour after one of the other from Telesales as I had an upgrade coming and I don't have to pay upfront as it's added to my bill). I got the Moment for the Keyboard, but the phone is a brick to me. Nice phone too and I can see some Android users preferring the Moment, but it was just too big and heavy for me. Besides, SenseUI is amazing!

Sell the Pre, get a Hero and I PROMISE you you will not look back either!!
