So i would search for what I'm trying to ask here, but I honestly have no idea what to look for.

Do I need to "root" my phone to get custom themes? I've been seeing some really cool screen shots of these X's with custom themes and I want to do this too, but I have no idea where to begin. Does rooting your phone involve breaking "certain rules"? Does rooting my phone have risks that I should be concerned about?

And what are ROM's? I see that everywhere i read about themes too.

Can anyone help out a noob? Any help is much appreciated.

The android platform allows infinite customization options in its stock configuration. Many apps allow you to change everything from wallpapers to the dock to icons. Start with something like launcher pro, play with the various options and make your phone your own. Once you are familiar with the android OS you will know if you need to root or not. Good luck and have fun.

Yes you need root to download new themes. And rooting does void your warranty. And if you delete a file the phone needs your phone wont boot up anymore, but if you got to Rootz Wiki and go to the Droid X section all way at the Bottom there is a section called Flash Back to Stock 2.1, do that and you will be virtually invincible of effing up your phone Software wise. Roms are custom versions of your current OS say your on android 2.2 on your Droid X if you flash the Fly X rom from Rom Manager your will have a custom theme, boot animation, and you will have a deodex phone which lets you customize your phone by putting different themes onto it. Now the easiest way to root you will need universal androot which is a 1 click root from your phone. Google it or just pm if you need a link. PM if you need more help i will glady help a rooting noob :) Press the thanks button if i helped.

Would Launcher Pro be the best choice for me to warm up with? Are there any others you would recommend?
