Check out the wiki at PSfreedom.com for the download. I haven't tried it yet with the Evo, but I've been using the Dingoo port for the last few days. It'll be interesting to see if the update that PSJailbreak is releasing next week can be made compatible with the clones.

Interesting. So this is a tool that allows you to root your PS3. What are some of the advantages of doing this? According to the psfreedom.com site, the only homebrew app available right now is an ftp server. And that's not something I really need on my PS3....

And for those of you who want to try this, the big takeaway I found from the psfreedom.com site is that you should make a nandroid backup of your existing phone, because basically it's going to install a custom kernel on your phone that will render your USB port unusable/unchargable except via the PS3??? or something like that. And not sure if it will affect your phone's usage. You'll prolly lose any benefit from your existing kernel and will get something that works more like the stock kernel. ps3freedom.com recommends you keep a separate nandroid backup for the PS3 jailbreak so you can switch to it only when you need it.

And what does this actually do?

I've been looking for this answer all week....gave up when I heard that the latest force update from PS3 closed the exploit they are using. there has been loose mention of full game backup....you pretty much can't do anything else while ps3 while jailbroken, and it is lost on power cycle.

again...that's what I have gathered over the past few days....

if anyone finds more please post!

Right now there's not a lot of homebrew, but there is a program called Backup Manager that allows you to rip your games to your internet harddrive or to an external one and play them from there.

Like I said, I haven't tried it with the Evo yet, but my guess is that it will make the USB port unusable for anything other than jailbreaking a PS3. The phone should still be fully usable otherwise, though. Furthermore, there's a disable .zip file that will put everything back to normal.

i was never involved in the jailbreaking of older PS consoles, but I seem to recall that one of the advantages (and probably the only one most people cared about) was that you could play games that were burned onto normal CDs.

I'm still on 3.41, so I can root the PS3 if I want. Still deciding if I want to bother. I'd be interested in taking screenshots.

Oh, ok I just talked to someone at work and he was saying this could also be done with just a flash drive.I have 2 ps3's one is prob still on 3.4 or even older as I only play movies on it. I updated my gaming one to 3.42 the other night.

I would assume you would also need to do the hack to keep the firmware from updating to get this to work. I'll read more about It when I get home.

preventing the updates is super-easy based on what I read. One solution was to set the DNS server to a particular IP, where I guess the DNS server there is designed to ignore requests to the Sony update servers, lol.

And if this really can be done from a flash drive, that would be much more preferable than using my Evo....

Some day, I'd like to see my Evo converted to a working controller for the PS3. It has bluetooth. It should be able to spoof a PS3 controller. Not very practical, but very cool show-off factor.

NO you cannot do it on a flash drive...

you need a usb dev board (at90usbkey or teensy usb)

or a android, symbian, webos, or iphone phone it's been ported too

or a TI-84+ calculator

a normal flash drive does not work

i think my friend was talking about this. PS JAILBREAK - WORLDS 1ST USB CHIPSET

not sure if ps freedom does different things, or was just a hacked version of ps jailbreak.
i don't know.

You can use a TI-84???? I don't know much about this since backing up blu-ray is a pain in the ass, but that seems pretty crazy.

I'll just stick with my modded xbox thank you.

Yes a ti-84+ can be used to hack your ps3 :) http://dukio.com/tutorials/ti84-psgroove-port-backup-manager.html

i don't know.

It will not work on a usb flash drive... the PSJailbreak is a USB controller inside a usb flash drive casing... It is not a storage device solely it has its own rom loaded with the hack as well as storage space. looks can be deceiving i know, they do look similar but as it says in the title of the link you posted, its the worlds first USB Chipset... not USB flash drive

PS freedom and PS groove are open source versions of PSJailbreak.

Does Backup Manager work with this?

yes backup manager works with this

follow this link for more info on getting psfreedom on your evo with backup manager
