Looking for a podcast app that supports "Premium" podcasts (User Name, password, etc.

I've made the transition from iPhone to Android, and I love almost every part of it. My only problem is that I had a premium podcast subscription that goes through iTunes. It was always buggy, iTunes never liked the large 1000+ podcast feeds. The problem is, I've tried several podcast apps without being able to use this podcast. The podcast link is itpc://www.japanesepod101.com/premium_feed/feed.xml (Don't bother trying to use it yourself, you need a user id and password to get anything out of it).

None of the podcast apps work, I even tried the $6.99 DoggCatcher app with no success. There must be a way to get a secure podcast onto the phone, right? It's not like it's some advanced technology or anything, this feed has been active for years!

It seems that none of the podcast apps I've tried support login info for podcasts, or allow Audio, video, and PDF capability. Here is a list I have tried, all of them have given me errors (DoggCatcher simply crashes the phone when I enter the podcast url):

DoubleTwist (Doesn't give me anything but the audio files, no video or PDF capability)

Can anyone help me?

Doggcatcher does have an option to put in a user name/password. Why it doesn't work I can't say.

Well now that I have gotten it refunded I can't download it again unless I'm abosuletly sure it would work, which it didn't yesterday. What it did do was freeze up the entire phone.

Having the exact same problem, I like DoubleTwist but it just says 'Subscription Failed' when I try to add JapanesePod's premium feed.

I've also been looking for something like this, I'm amazed there is nothing available. I was hoping putting http://username:password@blah.com/blah.rss would work but it doesn't, I've tried a few podcast apps.

The curent version of BeyondPod allows you to enter an optional username and pasword for each feed. The credentials are called upon when downloading content from said feed. No need to configure your credentials into the URL of the feed (i.e. http://usernameassword@domain.com/rss.xml). <- That concept, BTW, would only be useful if the XML feed, itself, were also stored in the same password protected directory as the content it references. This is seldom the case for many password protected feeds (from my experience).

BeyondPod has a free trial version that gives you all the features of the $6.99 version for a week. I vowed I'd never pay for an Android App until my trial period was up - then I experienced he PIA of updating each podcast manually, one at a time. At that point, the one time charge of $6.99 was a drop in the bucket compared to all the money I've wasted on Sirius over the years.

BeyondPod for Android

I setup a password protected podcast on one of my sites using the Apache server's htaccess password mechanism and saved the credentials for this feed in BeyondPod. The feed updates automatically every few hours, without issue. I never get prompted for a login, never encountered a 403 error - nothing. It works beautifully.
