scratched screen pictures?

I'm getting the Dinc next month and plan to get a screen protector. However, I just saw someone I know who had a Dinc since release date and his screen still looks perfect.

He has never used a case or screen protector, not even a pouch. He puts it in his jeans pocket for the most part.

Since then I've been trying to find a picture of a screen that actually scratched and have not been able to find one. I did find videos of abusive testing done on the screens.

It got me wondering whether screen protectors/cases are necessary or overkill.

Please post pics/vids of scratched screens if you have one.

I go naked with my dinc all the time. and yes I mean I'm naked with my dinc all the time...... Don't ask, cause it's a joke....

I have one tiny small faint scratch on my screen since release and it was due to me being a jackass and overfilling my pockets. I'm assuming a key or a USB charger end made the scratch, but I was busy doing other things and simply forgot I had other things in my pockets. I bought a jabra mini little bluetooth which came with a 6 inch charger for micro usb. While I'm at work I usually use this wire as it is small and stays out of the way. I'm pretty sure I stuffed the charger and my phone in the same pocket and got the faint scratch. That is the only thing small and sharp enough I can think of to make the type of scratch.

I still do not cover my phone, but I am just a little more conscious with pocket space and my phone.

The screen is not "unscratchable". Repeating rubbing with dirt/sand or other sharp objects will cause minute scratches. Just picture a very thin hair on your screen that you can't get rid of.

I use a screen protector because a scratch of any size would drive me crazy.

I have mine in a pretty decent case, and I have a screen protector on it as well. the main reason for this is because accidents happen, and the way I have it set up right now, I know I don't have to worry about getting dings or scratches from your "basic" drops. The way I look at it, the screen protector wasn't expensive (buy generic and cut it to the size you need) and I hardly notice it is there, so I would rather be safe than sorry.

my friend has his dinc since launch day, and he scratched up his screen....simply because he's a **** and put his phone in the same pocket as his keys.

if you're dumb enough to do that, you deserve for it to get scratched IMO lol

This is what I was looking for. An actual case of someone scratching a naked screen. A lot of people talk about how much scratch are on their protector and it would have been their screens if they didn't have them. The protectors are easy to scratch up.

I still would like to see a pic/vid of this though. I work in a job where I have to hand my phone to someone to get in classified areas and who knows where they put it so I'm probably going to get verizon screen protector if nothing else.

All you gotta do is look through posts on this very forum and you will find people who have scratched their phones. Probably at least a dozen or so that I remember... and I have only been around since June.

Here's two I found in less than 15 seconds:
http://androidforums.com/htc-incredible/158475-first-scratch.html
http://androidforums.com/incredible...48-need-help-scratched-incredible-screen.html

If you wanna take a chance just because you can't find someone who posted a picture, go for it. You might get lucky and go a full two years without scratching it.

Or you might screw up, drop the phone within a week of having it and then wish you hadn't listened to your friend. A friend who simply has been lucky so far.

eh, i don't have a protector.

i look at it this way: when i got the env touch, i was all OMG, first touch phone ever! i BETTER protect the screen! so i used cheap verizon screen protectors...not bad, but annoying and would smudge up after a few weeks, needing constant changes.

then i wasted $25 on invisible shield, which was the WORST accessory i EVER bought for a phone...the annoying bumpy texture felt like fly trap paper (your finger would get caught on it and stick to it) even MONTHS after i put it on.....and oh yeah, it's unscratchable right?!?!?! oh right, i scratched it with my THUMBNAIL. piece of crap. after that i vowed never to waste money on a screen protector again, as i ripped the invisi shield off the env and used it bare for months and i didn't scratch it at all, so idk why i was so worried.

got my eris, no protector. had it for 3 months before getting rid of it and getting the incred, no scratches.

got my incred in july, been using it since....no scratches. i just don't do stupid things like put ANYTHING ELSE in my pocket with it...and i've got the silicone case with a raised edge so that if it falls face first, it wont fall right on the screen

Ehh the way I look at it is, why risk it? I threw the steinheil crystal clear on mine and don't even notice its there. It's been on since they were available and it's still in pristine condition. Now I know that if I do get a scratch, I don't have to worry about it. Just throw the other screen protector on.

Like people said its not unscratchable. And now you've jinxed it! Murphey's Law will come scratch your future inc! jk <3
i use boxwave's screen protector. But i used it mostly because it helps with the fingerprints. AHHHHH the fingerprints i despised it so much how quickly it looked so gross. With such a nice display screen looking at the colors, one fingerprint was too noticeable for me. Ah and i LOVE it! it's smooth to the touch and not rough like the zig zag protectors. Great with glare, and seriously, NO fingerprints!!!!! Get a air can if you go with any screen protector though (for when you apply it so no dust sticks)

OOooh i know what you mean! Yea i used that same one for my last phone and i hated the touch. Get the boxwave! its like $13 :D

Don't you at least find it curious there are no pictures or videos what so ever though?

Pics of a small scratch is annoying to snap up in a pic or video. You need to get it at the right angle sometimes to really see it. Unless its a huge crack, you most likely wont see anyone spending time taking a pic of their little scratch.

On another note, I've used a bunch of skins and I always end up going back to bestskinsever.com.

I have seen 1 picture and I have seen one in person (a guy at the Verizon store who was complaining that his warranty wouldn't cover it).

But really... no. Do you realize how hard it is to get a picture of a scratch? Unless it is very long and very deep it just won't really show up. Even in the one picture I saw (which was on this very board) you couldn't see the scratch that the poster was talking about.

Besides, we are rather trusting people. If someone posts that they scratched their screen and are looking for advise, we are not going to assume that they are lying and ask for proof.

What a moron, could have just called *611 and say his 3g went out of some bullshit and there ya go, refurb on the way. people think they will get further in person, quite the opposite.

Maybe.

But your way requires lying and deceit. Not everyone wants to do that.

Oh, and if they get the phone and determine that the 3G is perfectly fine and think that you processed a false warranty claim, they CAN charge you for the refurbish phone. Sure it's not likely, but it could happen.

My screen has been naked since I installed a Steinheil Crystal Clear and decided it sucks in the first 24 hours. My phone spends its idle and pocket time in a soft felt pouch that fits it perfectly. No blah screen protectors (love that glass feel) and no scratches.

You must not get too many calls. It would drive me nuts having to get it out of a pouch every time someone called me.
