iTunes App Jam11...anyone try it?

Is anyone trying this App out? It sounds like a kickin solution for those of us that have a ton of m4p songs in iTunes (or just a bazzilion gb of songs) but I want to hear from people that are actually using this before I go through it.


If possible...

Yes I have gone this route too and it works kind of. I still cannot get my m4p files over to my phone that way.

It appears this Jam11 thing will side step that...which makes me happy.

What is the benefit of feeling smug and superior from having actually not stolen all of my music off the internet when I can't actually listen to a lot of it, eh?>

I have like 50 bazillion dollars worth of m4p"s on iTunes (give or take) that would be totally kickin if they would play on my Droid 1.

Not mp4's...they are m4p's ...that is DRM protected music. For the first few years of iTunes pretty much all music was protected like that.

I have heard there are some "cracker" programs that will convert the file to an mp3 but it slow, laborious and questionable on the legal front...and I have a bazillion paid for m4p files.

Transcoding is never really a good idea for quality though, if needs must though.

They should just wake up, get with the times and ditch the protection. Its pretty pointless really. It only pisses of people like your self that have paid for it in the first place, not the vast majority that illegally download it and listen to it on the same device as you.

I agree, and iTunes has got the picture...a day late and a dollar short. If what is said about Google's cloud music application really materializes then I think iTunes may be finally facing some real competition.

The big plus to iTunes was the simplicity and ease of buying legal music. Most of us would have bought even more if they had sold us an open mp3 rather than their DRM protected m4p files. When I buy a CD I can copy/backup the music but not with the iTunes songs... What a step backward.

So...since I do have such an investment in m4p files Jam11 may be a good interim solution...it will also keep my 16/32gb card in my phone more open for other material.

After reading the original post I dove in head first.

First, I applaud the efforts of Jam11. I love the idea of streaming my iTunes library via wifi/3G to my android phone. I've tried all the solutions and this is by far the best sounding solution (quality of music as streamed). I've tried Orb (app and mobile website), Homepipe, Subsonic and various others on other platforms.

I guess my big complaint though is its need to rescan/reload the library and playlists each time the application is opened. Each time it takes about 5 mins on wifi (3G is painfully slow) to load my library. Additionally Jam11 is constantly hanging when moving about the application. I'm also unable to do anything else on my phone when Jam11 is running.

Some of these issues might be due to my hardware, Droid1 with stock 2.2 froyo.

Anyway, Jam11 has great promise but it's not quite there yet. Unfortunately for Jam11, Google's implementation of Simplify Media may arrive sooner than the Jam11 app can be brought up to speed.

Joggy u may be correct in that it may be due to the hardware... I hadnt had any probz for the most part other than the minute it takes when I'm switching to a different artist bu even that isn't bad...

Oh yeah! only 7,000 here so I can definitely see why urs would take so long...

Yes, it will stream m4p files from iTunes. That is what attracts me to it.

I've been using it for a few days now and have encountered everything from perfect sync/play over 3G to forgetting to leave my laptop open and not being able to connect because of that fact.

I have 17k+ songs and over a 3G connection at work on the "reception shadow" side of the compound it syncs and plays back perfectly (with two bars 3G). On off days it might take a bit longer 10 seconds more to buffer a playlist. The longer you stay on the playlist the quicker the buffer get, very true. (FAQ)

-macbook (pre-aluminum). Latest verision of leopard (NOT snow leopard).
-Wireless rconnection at home (haven't connected laptop to the router physically.)
-cable ISP

Its a very good app. Works great and the dev team is VERY quick in responding to your emails. If you email them with an issue or let them know of a bug or if the app force closes give them you basic hardware/software info. (brand, phone name, OS version, and if pertinent, settings in app).

I would say just try it. I've used orblive, subsonic, pandemonium and this is the easiest and most reliable. Plus, its free!

New PC software and an updated Jam11 android app are out.

I went ahead and updated both and things are much better than I reported above. No more rescanning of my library when app is opened and the app is much smoother when running. This is on my Droid1 running stock 2.2 froyo. I've also loaded it on my Droid Incredible running stock 2.2 froyo and it runs super on that.

This app seems to be coming along nicely.

Thanks for your support. We know there is request for Album Art which will be coming in couple of weeks. We have also seen request for Syncing selected playlist and that will also be coming soon.

Are there other features you would like to see?
