Help How do I turn off the History in the Contacts/Groups/Updates area?

I was alarmed to find this morning that my entire text message history was still stored in this History tab of the contacts/dialer tabs, despite having deleted all my text messages. I manually deleted the whole set, but I could not find a setting to stop storing this information. Ideas?

If I ever lose or have my phone stolen, I don't want months of text messages available...

And it saves email history too. I was able to delete them. I guess until there is a way to turn that off, I will just delete periodically. I wonder if it deletes at some number of days???
