I am so excited about this phone. Build quality is on point and will be perfect for my business/networking needs. People can complain about power all they want, but the fact is this phone does not require a 1ghz processor. That would require a bigger battery which means more bulk on the phone. You can tell that even with HTC Sense the phone flies, nothing lags at all. Imagine this on stock android! Wow.

Did I say the build quality is excellent? This is the first phone that really matches the N1 in build quality. The phone looks so damn sturdy for some reason. If I were to throw it at a wall I feel like the wall would break and not the phone.

People don't understand that power isn't always everything if it doesn't function right. Example, the Vibrant is the most powerful phone on the market, even more powerful than the Desire HD. However, because of the OS you can never even use that power. It bottlenecks the phone, you can't even tell how powerful the hardware really is. On top of that, Android 2.2 doesn't require much processing power. Sure this phone would be fine and dandy with a nice dual core processor, but half of that power would never be used! HTV would be spending billions to put a beefed up processor into the phone, but as of now, there is no real use for that power. Are you going to buy a 5Ghz computer if all you do is browse the web, play an occasional game, and send email? Come on now. If you want unnecessary power and a pretty screen so you can watch youtube videos a tad bit more clearly, go get a Vibrant and deal with the issues it has. Or you can wait for the G2 which will work as advertised, no crappy UI messing things up.

For someone like me who needs basic things like GPS, email/text, web browsing with full flash etc. to work flawlessly, the Vibrant doesn't cut it. The Vibrant feels like a toy that was made to make people salivate because they can watch avatar in HD. Big deal. The GPS doesn't work and the phone lags for no reason. Not to mention battery life is horrible.

Don't worry about Android 3.x. It hasn't been announced and more than likely, just like the update from 1.x to 2.x, next generation hardware will be needed to run it. I expect Google to release new hardware with 3.x that dwarfs everything on the market so they can display their OS and show what's needed to run it smoothly. To uphold the integrity of Android Google has to release hardware with major updates, otherwise they'll have nothing to show it off with. But again, 3.x is so far off and out of your control that it shouldn't factor into you getting the G2 or not. Just be happy that this is the SECOND phone that runs 2.2 stock, and is more powerful than the Nexus One.

So excited for this phone. I hope the G2 has the same dark grey color tone as the Desire Z. :D

Great post. I disagree about 3.0 though. I think it very unlikely that it won't run on the G2.
It is being announced in 2 months, so if people ARE worried, they wouldn't have that long to wait.

I am pretty confident this phone will be upgradable though, and will certainly be getting it next month.

Hopefully man. It would be a great thing if the G2 could run 3.x perfectly. How do you know its being announced in two months?

I expect 3.x to be a complete overhaul from 2.x, thus I think more processing power will be needed.

It is supposed to be focused on UI mostly, and optimization for other platforms. They shouldn't do anything which requires more power. This update is about aesthetics and usability. Windows 7 Phone on the other hand, seemed to just rip the guts out of 6.5. In true windows fashion, the minimum requirements basically exclude anything over 10 months old.

Keep in mind that this is a mobile phone OS. Because it is a resource restricted environment, the idea is for the OS to use as FEW resources as possible. Just look at the performance jump from 2.1 to 2.2.

Also, note that most devices which launched with Android 1.x are now on 2.0 or higher. I would not be surprised if 3.0 could run on the G1, far less the G2.

Great post. I can't wait for this phone either. Seeing the only difference between the Desire Z and the G2 is the 4gb of ROM in the G2. The XDA Devs will should have an easy time porting the sense UI for those that want it to the G2.

As far as 3.0 goes, this phone will be more than capable running it. The rumor of required specs was debunked a long time ago and simply, this processor is faster than the 1ghz snapdragons on today's market. Not as fast as the processor found in the desire hd, but has the same graphics and I imagine will be overclocked for those that just have to have 1 ghz, even though its been proven time and time again about the mhz myth.

T-mobile, would you hurry up and start the pre-orders so i can hand you my money.

Not the G1, MyTouch etc. 3.0 will not be able to run on the G1 natively. The G1 never got updated to 2..x even. Now if some skilled developers find a way to port it thats possible. There is just no way the G1 could just run 3.x straight out of an OTA update.

will this phone handle outlook exchange and sync contacts, calendar, tasks and emails as well as my blackberry does with it's push service?

Also, will this phone have the ability to give me remote desktop to my computer somehow? I see that I need java enabled browser on my berry to do that and besides my screen is too small but on the G2, if it could do that it would be great.

Lastly, I am having trouble making the switch as I hear that this phone will NOT have any UMA or similar WiFi calling capabilities; Is this true? And if so, will that change soon with some type of software or app? How can these android manufacturers leave out the biggest option of them all with the UMA.

I believe there are many people like myself that either travel a lot for business or get crappy signal at home and work (like me) and without UMA, TMO has no advantage over the others?
