Alright so I have been running 2.3.9 since the day it was leaked (unrooted).

I'm having some annoyances that include hiccups and minor lockups when scrolling contacts and opening googlevoice app etc. Long story short I am not totally happy and I figure it's time to play around with some ROMs.

Here's what I have done:
1) rooted via D2 method
2) Installed Titanium Backup and backed up all application and system data
3) Installed ROM Manager and Droid X Bootstrapper
4) Backed up current "rom" in the recovery mode.
5) Saved a copy of the backups on my computer
6) Downloaded flyX

I'm ready to boot up and give it a go but just need some verification I've done all the necessary steps to get back to my current state if I choose to later.

Concerns:
1) Is Droid X Bootstrapper now the default recovery bootloader? Similar to GRUB for PC's?
2) Will wiping system data and clearing cache to install FlyX preserve my current backups on my phone's SD card?
3) Does anyone recommend the leaked 2.3.15?

Thanks for all the help. Surfing these forums got me this far with no issues so far.

cheers:cool:

If you want to have a chance to flash ROMS if they unlock the bootloader yes I recommend the leak. It's the came version minus the new crap they added to lock it down more. The only thing you may want from the official OTA is the base band radio but that's also something they may have added just to screw with the dev community. You will also be safer, as far as you screwing up your phone, since the leak doesn't turn the 2.1 SBF into a brick maker.

1) Bootstrapper will need to be opened and Bootstrap recovery selected before you do anything that requires Clockwork Mod Recovery.

2) You will not lose anything on your sd card.

3) Can't say, I've only used official Motorola roms. I'm on 2.2 OTA, 2. 3.15 but I'm rooted, deodexed and themed.

I'm not sure I made myself clear about 1. I have done this step already and successfully backed up my phone. My question is, is this recovery mode now the default? so if anything goes bad with the rom I can just boot into recovery and reload my backup?

2. Cool, that's what I thought.

3. avoiding the official for now but thanks for your help :)
