When it was time for my VZW upgrade, I probably went to Verizon 5 or 6 times looking at phones before deciding on the Droid 2. The reasons for my decision:
1 - Physical Keyboard - coming over from a Blackberry
2 - Size - I felt the Dx was just too big
3 - Android - Wanted to get away from OLD technology and thinking.
4 - iPhone / VZW - After waiting for years, finally realizing VZW wasn't getting the iPhone. (I have an iPod Touch and its a great product) Im NOT a fan of the new iPhone form factor however. And NO ATT for me!
5 - Powering on/wake was too clumsy, the damn power button is almost flush with the casing.
6 - Mediocre camera. Good outside, NOT good inside.
So I got the Droid 2. It was a very bland experience but I stuck it out. It just didn't WOW me like I had hoped it would......
A - Didn't care for the keyboard, the keys were too flat for my liking. Also, the keys felt like they would peel off to me.
B - Weight - One could kill a giant with the darn thing.
C - Screen - The proportions of the screen arent right. Its too narrow or something.
D - In portrait mode, the keyboard was too small, important when trying to one-hand a quick text.
E - The soft menu keys were clumsy for me.
Sooooo, back to Verizon I went, twice actually. It very hard, at least for me, to make a decision on a phone standing at the display with that stupid LEASH on the phone. The phone companies need a better test model for smartphones IMO. Anyhow, I decided I would TRY the Dx, so we reordered and it arrived last week.
I couldn't be happier.... I absolutely made the wrong choice with the D2.
1 - I like the form-factor, I like how it sits in my hands.
2 - I like the keyboard and the voice input is remarkable.
3 - The screen is wonderful, brilliant, proper proportion, even if its BIG.
4 - I like the power/wake buttons, much better than the D2.
5 - Camera is awesome.
6 -I like the physical menu buttons, I was forever pressing the soft keys on the D2.
And I like Android, much more flexibility to do things.....or NOT do things.
Hopefully, my journey will help someone out there.
