sup everyone. just picked up my X10 last week, so far so good....except for SE's customer service dept (located in the Dom. Republic for US customers).

this is my first post - might as well be a negative one...lol.

just called SE at 1866-766-9374.

spoke to the "most unfriendly" customer rep named "Raul".

i had some quick questions about general phone features...before I could even get to ask him about OS 2.1 update, I decided to call back and talk to a supervisor as "Raul" was very disrespectful and limited to providing one answer comments.

here is what "Carol" told me.

1. OS 2.1 update will come 1Q of 2011. Carol was not sure at all whether it would be in Jan, Feb or March....

2. The excuse for the delay is making sure all the kinks are worked out

3. I then shared my experiences with "Raul"...Carol pretty much had the "oh, whatever...i feel sorry for you" attitude.

The way a company operates their customer service dept does not make it or break it with me.

However, I do think twice when it comes to repeat purchases. X10 is a nice phone but I will think twice before considering another SE product...

I, like many other Xperia X10 users, am very confused with the actual release date of 2.1

First we get told Q4, then we get told Q3, then again we get told Q4, and now your saying they've told you Q1 of 2011

Personally, I can wait as long as it takes, but I don't like the fact that I feel they're taking the piss out of us all, and there are many people out there, that really want this update, and if they continue to postpone it, they are going to loose more and more customers than they are already loosing.

Next time they release something like this update, they should think wisely before releasing any information, that way people can be certain of the actual release date

They are trying to roll the update at the end of October but that doesn't mean it will get to the consumer at the end of October. I've been anticipating 2011 since before I bought the phone. The timeline just fits IMO. *shrugs*

Also, remember there is a difference between 2.1 and 2.1x, the second part of the 2.1 update. 2.1x was never intended for Q4 (at least not in the last couple of months), it has been slated in-theory for 2011 Q1 for awhile now.

I'm not upset about the whole thing.. I know I'm a new X10 owner and I guess that helps. I came into the X10 knowing the update was delayed and just accepting it. Probably makes things easier.

Best to concentrate on all the great things your phone can do for you now, and not worry about the update. Worrying about it and thinking about it and trying to predict a release date won't make it come any faster. It'll just make ya angry ;)

2.1....why not 2.2....will we ever even see 2.2? i did talk to someone from a ATnT copperate store and he said its taking so long cause there skipping 2.1 to give is 2.2. but in my opioin, well find out when ever the little chip in our phone tells us to update. i personally think well see sony xperia x12 before we see 2.1

If this takes until Q1 2011, we should all get x10 rebates so we can get the x12 that will have ALL current Everything. Why do I get the feeling that we are the beta scape goats, wherein Sony needed some quick cash so they rushed this out, knowing it was not ready, with their plans of making the x12 the king catfish.. Yeah, I feel we are definately getting dumped on here...

Well swap the Android for a SE logo and replace the apple with SE customers and that would be about right!

As of today:

The current plan still holds to start the roll-out towards the end of October and onwards. (As mentioned earlier the roll-out is done gradually though so it will take some time before all different versions get the update.)

From the Sony products blog. (Direct link here, which deals mostly with HD video).

*checks watch* Well I guess they still have a couple weeks to... either roll it out or announce it's been delayed again

(Edit: I still personally don't care at all when it comes out, it'll come out when it comes out.. I just thought I'd link the latest info.)

Will I get 2.1 when it comes out for T-Mobile? Im with Orange UK and Im sure the companies have merged together

Possibly but be more inclined to say no as they still have their own individual settings and software on the phones

although the 2 companys have the same parent company they are still 2 seperate traders

in the same way as

Carphone Warehouse & Best Buy UK
Volkswagen & Skoda
Currys & PC World
Game & Gamestation

etc etc

Already, the slide into the end of Nov is getting leaked out. I see this time they are trying to sound all motivated and hyped up about the release at the end of Nov. They just casually threw it in there. I guess they already learned it is better than coming out and thelling the truth. The problem is, I don't know when they are telling the truth or lieing, since everything so far has been lies...
