Help Installing Kies: A Question about Region and Language

I have a quick question about Kies. Since the Froyo update will be coming through it, I need to install it on my PC (Win 7, 32 bit). I live in Taiwan, but I don't speak Chinese. When I go to the Samsung Mobile website, it asks me to select my country. The link for Taiwan renders the website only in Chinese characters (for obvious reasons). I'm hesitant to download it from the Taiwanese website because I'm worried it'll be in Chinese, and I'm hesitant to pick an English-speaking country as it may affect the region settings.

How do I download an English copy of Kies and set the region to Taiwan?

Hi SlowRain, Like you I'm a Galaxy S owning expat as well.

I'm actually British but living in mainland China. However I downloaded Kies from Samsung's UK website as Samsung's PRC site is obviously in Chinese. AFAIK Kies itself is multilingual, it asks you what language you want when you install it, English, Chinese, Korean, etc. I've actually kept the region to UK, and UK English as language, it works just fine. My S is a UK model, purchased in the UK.

Kies should connect to the phone OK, I'm using it with 32bit Windows 7 on a netbook, it worked straight away. A very important thing though there must be no errors showing on the phone's drivers in the Windows Device Manager. If there are Kies will not work.

Can anyone please give me the exact web address to download the Samsung Kies in order to sync with MS Outlook? I've tried to do the UK thing and do not seem to be specific enough. Thank you,

That may be a link the to the Taiwanese site (there is a "site=TW" in there), but the installer asks you which country you want and which language you want, so I don't foresee any problems. Also note this is for the GT-I9000 phone. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Good luck getting it connected, though. You may want to read up on the proper way to open Kies and hook up your Galaxy S for the very first time. Some people seem to think there's a pattern to follow to make it work the first time. Otherwise you may have to tinker a bit...like me. I'm going to try to play around again tonight to see if I can get it working. Samsung sent me a suggestion that may fix it, and there are some threads on here as well.
