Sorry if this question has been asked a bunch or answered but I've been searching and cant really find the answer.

I want to make my EVO run like its stock from HTC. No extra items or anything just android 2.2 and htc sense with 4G and all the rest functional. Is it also possible to do this and receive OTA updates from HTC, or if I go down the path of rooting and roms will i have to manually install any update when it happens. I would love to be able to get the phone as stock as possible and be able to never have to reinstall or manually update/flash/root etc. again. Thanks in advance.

Flash a stock rooted ROM,u can still receive updates from HTC with any Sense ROM but if you decide to apply the OTA u might loose your rooting privileges,in this case all u have to do is wait for the devs to release a rooted version of the OTA and done.

when the ota updates come out, usually a new rooted rom follows soon, and you can flash them while only wiping cache and dalvik, so it runs just like the update and will not loose root

I think the highlighted part is going to be difficult to guarantee. If you have a stock, rooted ROM and you take an OTA then you will likely lose root and have to re-root again.

Maybe I missed something as well, have you rooted your phone already? If not, then just make sure you have the latest 2.2 OTA, then root via unrevoked3 and don't do anything else. That way you will have the stock, fully updated 2.2 with root.

No, I havent rooted yet. Maybe im unfamiliar with what rooting does, but does it take away all the bloatware and customization that Sprint puts on the EVO and just makes it look like stock andoid with sense?

edit: yea i think i got it figured out, a root and a stock rom should be exactly what I want. ill just deal with having to update stuff on my own haha. guess I cant have my cake and eat it too
