Question regarding OFFICIAL Froyo release for Droid

Ok, so I've spent the last 6 months using 2.2 Froyo and I love it, however, I was using a leaked build on a rooted system. Today, I decided to unroot and move back down to official 2.1 so I could do an official upgrade to 2.2. However my Droid tells me that my system software is up to date.

Since I was rooted before and wasn't notified of any rolling updates, did I miss something? I assumed I would be able to OTA to 2.2 once I was back on an official Google build.

i would say go to settings>about phone> android version and make sure you really are on version 2.1. How did you unroot? did you use the sbf file to go back to stock, if you did maybe you used the the 2.2 version instead of 2.1. or maybe somehow you rooted while on 2.2 and didn't realize it (which is unlikely). If you are on 2.1 then you should be able to update to 2.2. If all else fails do a forum/google search for the official froyo 2.2 file which you can install yourself over 2.1 even if you aren't rooted. Hope this helps. good luck

how did you Droid "tell you" this? if you don't have 2.2 - which is the most up to date - you will know as you will get an OTA message to allow an update. if you are at 2.2, you would get no message so no way the phone would "tell you".

is it possible you got the last 2.2 OTA update while rooted and accepted it? if so, then that would have unrooted you and you would in fact be at the most current unrooted up to date Froyo.

Guys, what all of you are failing to realize is this:

OTA notifications are not instantaneous - they may take a while, just like when FroYo was first rolled out. Some of us were getting them within minutes of the first reports, others didn't see them for up to 2 days.

Since you reverted to an unrooted 2.1 ROM, wait at least a couple of days before saying anything - I'm willing to bet you see something by tomorrow, but 2 days minimum would be a good waiting period before you start worrying.

I only said that (1) he could have gotten, at some point, an OTA and did it and did not realize its effects and that is why he thinks he is up to date. part of his post is unclear on how he thinks he is "up to date". So, if he looks in About settings and see 2.2 already, then it would seem he got the OTA 2.2 and let it ride over his root without having a backup and it took him back to stock? Or, if he looks in About settings and sees 2.1, he would not report "my system software is up to date" as we know 2.1 is not up to date... so there are some unclear things in his post as I read it.

There's nothing to clear up. I got a "new" Droid a few days ago, and it was still on 2.1. When I went to check for System updates, it did say that it was up to date. It didn't really concern me though, since I just rooted it and restored a nandroid backup.

Scuzz, if you don't get the OTA soon, you can install the .zip, if it's still around.

Why unroot? Were you seeing too much functionality out of your phone?

There's nothing to clear up. I got a "new" Droid a few days ago, and it was still on 2.1. When I went to check for System updates, it did say that it was up to date. It didn't really concern me though, since I just rooted it and restored a nandroid backup.

who knows what is really going on. He never really reported how he determined his software was "up to date". I have read people who think they are rooted and are not and those that think they are not and are. sure, he claimed he "unrooted" - but no mention as to how when most times that process confuses people. sure he mentioned his software was "up to date" - but no mention of how he determined it.

Point is, I see several scenarios here - and yours are likely more correct no doubt - but until the OP comes back and posts....

Here's an actually helpful response to the OP:
Simply install these updates in order. These are the exact same as the OTA updates that you should eventually get, but why wait?:

Froyo update 1 (FRG01B):

I would personally download from location 3 since it is in a folder that says FRG01B

Froyo update 2 (FRG22D):

Installing these will bring you back up to speed.

Lock-N-Load: It should be fairly obvious how he determined that his phone was up to date. On stock ROM under Settings > About Phone > System Updates. This is generally disabled/not visible on most recent custom ROMs. When you tap it it will generally tell you "your phone is up to date".
