Help Need to figure out how to use phone for live video; brother's wedding, mom is in hospital

Hi,

I'm relatively new to Android. I was a Verizon BB user and came to Sprint for the Epic and have been pretty pleased thus far.

My mother has been in the hospital for a bit over a month, and my brother's wedding is out of town this Saturday and she won't be able to make it.

Is it possible to use my Epic to broadcast the wedding so she can watch it on her laptop? If so, how? I need to get the right aps installed and do a test run before I leave town Friday.

Thanks for your help!

First you just have to make sure you have the most updated version of qik. After you do that...
-Create a Qik account
-Change location settings to off if you care anything about your privacy.

After that any video you shoot in the qik application will show up live on your qik.com profile.
If you want someone to see your video just give them your qik profile link for example.

Also I'm pretty sure you don't need to sign up jus to watch the videos all you should have to do is give people the link to your page and start recording.

Edit*
qik will also let you upload videos recorded with the regular camcorder on the phone. So if you dont like the quality you can always just record with the 720p camera and then upload. It just wont be live..

I just tried out qik, after I updated it. And it doesn't work very well for live streaming. After I finished my test, and it was done buffering, it did play back a half way decent video. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or this app just is ready for live streaming.

Which Phone do you have..The first time i actually used qik was on my HTC Evo and the live video was OK quality with a slight lag and very watchable. I tested it for the first time earlier today with my Samsung Epic and the live video was just frozen the whole time. This may have something to do with the samsung epic having pretty bad upload speeds. (Both tests were done in 3g) If you have access to wifi while your streaming i would suggest using that.

That's some misinformation. EVERY 3G phone has horrible upload speeds, but your advice still holds true.

Streaming video is one of the most bandwidth intensive things you can do as far as your upload speeds are concerned. Your biggest hope is that the service has some Wi-Fi or WiMax coverage so your upload speeds will be better. Qik does some stream throttling based on your upload speeds (increased compression, lower framerates), so the better your connection, the better quality the video will be. Even under optimal conditions with testing at my last job the best quality we got on 3G connections was about 3 fps at 640x480 at about 25% compression. We could bump the framerate up to about 12 if we compressed the hell out of it but it was near unwatchable because it was so blocky, and this was with pro quality IP surveillance cameras and ingestion software across a dedicated 3G data backhaul.

On another note, I hope your mother does better and can eventually get out of the hospital. That's a sad story, really :-/

I think you have to have Qik-in-touch installed on the PC to view a live feed.
