I own a Motorola charm and have a question about the battery life.

I am very pleased with my charm but there is one gripe I cant get over.
The battery life seems to be getting drained by the well known CEEL STANDBY and PHONE IDLE "issue"

Ive read and searched the forum (and google) high and low (including http://androidforums.com/motorola-charm/185494-battery-life-charm.html)
but cant seem to find the proper way to at least partly fix it.

Ive installed battery e.t.a which give me an estimation of how long the battery will last and it has been quite accurate.

Now the weird thing is that when i put my phone on standby (with 3g switch of running on 2g) the battery seems to drain a lot faster than when im actually USING the phone (using whatsapp, texting, phone call or two), that just doesnt seem right.

I dont have the time without signal problem as that is always at 0%

So the problem is that when i put my phone in standby it drains al lot quicker and as soon as I start using it Battery ETA tells me that I can get more usage.

Anybody know of a solution to this problem?

It is a bug in the firmware. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do. We need a firmware update and by the way Motorola gives updates it may never happen

Thanks for the reply but from what i've read not just the motorola charm is suffering this problem, alse e.g. the htc evo or the droid even.

It is just weird as the battery should last much longer because of the lesser quality screen

It's the battery, T-Mobile users that are using the extended battery they got are happy with their battery life, I don't know why Telus didn't ship with the extra battery. The Motorola Q's battery fits in there but you'll need to get the exteded battery cover from Motorola or T-Mobile if they're willing to send one.

Well I live in Europe and I have the extended battery cover from tmobile (not the battery though) and Ive got the bt90 extended battery from the Q, conclusion: they dont fit together as the Q battery is slightly to large.

Do you know where I could get that Tmobile battery?

It could be the battery but I think that it is unlikely, i think it is a firmware issue because the CELL STANDBY issue is not just limited to the CHARM.

My friend has a htc hero and uses almost exactly like I do but his CELL STANDBY is never that high and is not the root of a drainage problem like I have

I have officially fixed the problem, been unplugged since 5AM (europe time) and it is now 11 PM and i still have 40% left with moderate to heavy use

Well (in my case) it was quite simple actually
If you get about 9 hours of use with almost everything off you should at least give this a shot:

First of all: charge you phone overnight on a computer and see if that helps, that solved my problem, battery lasts now atleast 20 hours with 3g on all the time and heavy messaging and whatsapp

You could also dial *#*#4636#*#* and go into phone information, scroll down and change that setting to GSM AUTO (prl), found this trick somewhere on the web and did that

One of these two (i did them both at the same time) was the solution for me

I would still recommend to use a 2g-3g switch to get the most of your battery, keep 2g on and only put 3g on if your going to browse etc, also you oculd think of turning background dat off, while this is not necasary it could give you an extra 10 to 15% juice.
