Help Backing up contacts stored on phone ?

My conacts are stored on my phone and I would like to back them up.

Which is the best / easy way to do this............

Running 2.2 and back up option has gone !

So when I export them to the SD card they still be on my phone also though, right? And then I can copy my SD card to a writer is that what you mean?

Exactly where on your SD card are these contacts stored?
What are the name(s) of the files?

If you export the contacts to the SD card and then delete all of the contacts in your phone app will you then be able to import the contacts once again to the phone WITH THE PHOTOS that you had linked to your contacts?

Another related question.

Is it possible to have two or three Phone Contact files?
I'm not talking about setting up Groups inside a Phone Contact file.
I'm talking about completely separate Phone Contact files.

If it's possible, can someone please tell me the steps involved to achieving this?

The contacts will be backed up to a vcard file, file type .vcf. I can't tell you the name because I don't use HTC software so it's probably different on mine. The file will be written to the sd card (not in a folder, just the root of the card).

Whenever I've restored from vcf the few photos I have in my address book have restored. Vcard files are ASCII, not binary, so you can view them yourself - a large block of gibberish in a contact's info is probably a photo

Multiple files? Don't know. My wife's Desire C writes different files for different types of contacts, but that's a much later HTC software. My Desire puts all contacts in one, but it's not HTC software at all. Try it and see - if it only lets you choose one contact type it's writing separate files.

If you weren't talking about backup files, then contact groups, or phone vs Google contacts, is as close to separate address books as you'll get, because in the end it's just the one dialer storage app's database.
