6' in the air and landed 15' later on a black top parking lot.

I had a "Wireless Accessories" Hard cover and Screen protector, both purchased from US Cellular when I bought the phone.

aside from a few marks on the corners of the case, everything is perfect!

Just thought i'd offer you all a little piece of mind.

Thank you,
Duke

I dropped mine about 3 feet in a grocery store. It went end over end, I snatched it up and looked to make sure it was ok, it all looked fine BUT almost immediatly it started acting qwerky I gave it a couple days to make sure it wasn't random stuff. It would fail to connect to the internet, open screens at random, not send texts , then it started not ringing or ringing when there wasn't a call or text or anything. O and the camera went all fuzzy and wouldn't focus. I have the Belief plan with phone replacement so I called and they sent a brand spanking new phone with the original box and all just like I bought it at the store.

How was your experience with them regarding the Belief project and phone replacement?

I've been curious to see how "customer friendly" that replacement process will be, since I can see some potential for abuse with the system.

I've decided to forego a screen protector (still getting myself an otterbox commuter, I think) because of the replacement policy. We'll see how it goes.

(brought over from the known issues thread)

I bought 2 mesmerizes as Christmas for my 2 boys. Loved, loved, loved this phone, so I then went back and bought one for myself. These were our first smart phones so you can imagine the excitement for each of us.

Week 2, one of my son's received a call on his while driving down the road. The phone was in the passenger seat, and on vibrate only, and it vibrated right into the floor board hitting the carpet, and shattered the screen. I bought cases when I bought the phones, but US Cellular had not yet received the screen protectors so we were still waiting for them to come in. Not sure whether this would have helped or not, but we are talking about a few inches with the phone landing on soft carpet.

Yes, I upgraded to the Belief Project, but they told us because my son "misused" his phone, the warranty is void. I pay for the extra insurance for the phone, but I am not about to pay a $100.00 deductible for this. I contacted Samsung the day after this happened, and have yet to hear back from them, so I contacted them again today and so far nothing.

I'm so disappointed! I'm packing up the other 2 that I bought and returning them tomorrow. Although I realize these phones are more sensitive than the older type phones, this is ridiculous. No way that any phone screen should shatter this easily!
Mine flew 15 feet through the air and landed on blacktop and its fine, sounds fishy to me

dukeofbluz, there is nothing fishy to this story. I was in the backseat with my little grandbaby when this happened, so I witnessed it firsthand. Glad you and others have had a better experience with the phones. Either we got a bad apple or your screen protector did it's job, but my local store still has no screen protectors. I'm not taking any more chances. My boys are 17 and 20 and I expect some mishaps, but not this easily.

I understand your frustration and I certainly would be upset in the same situation. I have to echo dukeofbluz somewhat, however. These phones have a hardened glass screen. While they are not indestructible, they will absolutely withstand a less than 1 foot drop onto carpet. Either your son dropped it previously from a much higher height (unbeknownst to you) and it didn't shatter at that point, or he had a crappy phone from the start. I've dropped mine several times since I have purchased it. Most of them have been "3 foot drop tests" (fell out of my hand accidentally) but at least one has been from my Jeep as I was getting out. Not even a scratch on the phone screen yet. Functionality is just fine, too.

If its truly the latter and not the former, I would push USCC harder. That is not an acceptable answer, in my opinion. I would insist that the claim be elevated to a supervisor, and very calmly and patiently explain the situation to that person. Sometimes the 1st level reps will tell you "not covered" just to get you off of their plate. If you accept that answer and walk away, then USCC never knows what happened.

From my own previous experience with cell phone service issues, you have to be patient and professional. They usually don't give you what you want right away. You have to be patient and persistent, and lay out a reasonable case. The angry, boisterous, make a scene "YOU WILL REPLACE THIS" attitude in the middle of the store will get you nothing but the "like heck I will" response from whomever you are dealing with. The calm, persistent, professional approach "I need your supervisor to help me understand how this is a misuse of the phone" that appeals to reason and common sense is far more likely to result in the desired outcome. At some point, they will want to keep a good customer satisfied, and they will figure out a way to make it work. Pushy jerks will get told to pound sand. (And rightfully so)

Definitely agree with you there LaTuFu, as i had this happen a few times WAY back when the razr was the phone to have. If you get mad they give you the run around. If you are very clear with how the incident happened and are respectful to them, they usually will help you out within the first minutes of speaking with them.

Hi there,

Thanks very much for this thread!! I dropped my NEW Mesmerize the other day. It actually fell from my desk (about 1-2 feet) onto a plastic desk chair pad on carpet. Luckily I had an Otterbox commuter series case on it which probably helped to prevent any damage but I was looking for some reassurance that my phone was probably OK. I got it here. If anyone wants to give me more reassurance that it is OK I'd love to have it!! :)

I have dropped (really fell) out of my pocket of my hooded sweatshirt (the really big pocket). It would fall out while I am fastening my son in to his booster seat, it would hit the the metal door floor frame, then slid out and land face down in the gravel, first time I freaked but never a scratch, did it twice today the same way. Now I learned, put in bra if I have no pockets, just safer that way.

Its an old family secret safe, we all do it...lol
My grandmother, mother and cousins all the women in my family do it, mostly cause we have bras big enough to hold almost anything from phones, money, credit/bank cards and those that smoke hold our cigs; when their is no need or want to carry purse.
