Big thanks to narendrakini from SE own forum for pointing me in the right direction. The one thing I hated about my X8 was the keyboard, it did not compare to the HTC_IME I had for my X10.

Well now problem solved...

Link removed - not working see below

Download the file to your pc, if you haven't got winrar download that and extract files, then copy folder across to your sd card. Install both apps and then go to settings>locale & text in 1.6 or Location & Keyboard in 2.1 and select HTC_IME keyboard. Then whilst in your texting app, long press on the text input box and select input method and choose HTC_IME. Sorted!

Edit.... Updated link as the original is no longer working so I have deleted it

Edit this link no longer works please try the ones further down 06/10/11

well to active it and install it olny do like that its easy and very cute keyboard: (method)

1. Firstly you should prepare your X18 for third party software installations:
-Press the MENU key and follow Settings > Applications
-Ensure Unknown Sources is ticked
You will receive a warning when ticking this box and you should of course be careful that you only install software of trusted source
2. Next you should install a file manager which is capable of handling .apk files for installation:
-Download a free file manager from the Android Market such as Astro
Other file managers are available
3. Now you can download the HTC keyboard and transfer it to your SD card:
-Attach your phone to the USB cable and, via the “USB Connected” notification, choose Mount for file transfer
You may need to setup the drivers if you haven’t already installed the Sony Ericsson software
-Alternately you can remove your SD card and access it through a USB reader
-Save the zip file to your computer and extract the files .htcime, HTC_IME.apk & Clicker.apk
-Copy .htcime to your SD root directory
This file contains setup information for the modded keyboard
-Copy HTC_IME.apk to your chosen location of the SD card
This file installs the HTC Touch Input keyboard
-Copy Clicker.apk to your chosen location of the SD card
This file enables screen calibration and is optional
4. You can now disconnect your X10 from the computer and install the apk’s:
-Select Turn Off USB Storage from the Android notification bar and press Turn Off
-Open the file manager you installed in step 2 and browse to the location you saved the apk files to.
-Click on HTC_IME.apk and select Open App Manager
The options may vary in different file management apps
-Press Install to begin the installation or Upgrade if installing over an older version
-Follow the installation process as normal then press Done and return to your file manager
-Click on Clicker.apk if you wish to install the calibration tool and follow as above, skip this step if you do not wish to use the calibration
5. The keyboard is now installed but needs to be activated as an input option:
-Press the HOME key then MENU and follow Settings > Locale & Text in 1.6 or Language & Keyboard in 2.1
-Ensure Touch Input is ticked
-Now long press any text input box and choose Input Method where you will see the new Touch Input option
-Select this and enjoy vastly improved typing on your Xperia X8

----------------------------------------------------------------
FOR ADVANCED PEOPLE :
1-move the .apk 2 files in your sdCard , install the 2 apk files.

2-active it from MENU and follow Settings > Locale & Text , long press any text input box and choose Input Method where you will see the new Touch Input option

Enjoy it , Khaled Hamed

The only thing. I love about the default browser is the little box that helps to easily navigate text when editing something... its the best thing which this third party keyboards are missing :-(

Can you explain what you mean, cos I think I may be missing something here:D

You can set the volume rocker to move your cursor, in the HTC_IME settings find User Interface and scroll down to find volume keys and tap and select move cursor.

Ok thats an alternative but not so good as default... what I was talking about was go your default kb whenever you edit a long already written text just above your kb a box appears wiv a big blue cursor... I don't know how more to explain it... when I will go home next tion I mwill send you the screenshot ;-)

yeah,
it works on my xperia x8.
the advantages:
- you dont need to change the key from number/symbol to alphabet
- you can find shift way to find the other alphabet, if you want to know more about this and other, you must watch the Tutorial (inside the menu of the keyboard)

the disadvantages:
- you cannot move the cursor, just move it by your finger.. hehe, because the virtual key is missing.

juast enjoy it, i used it now.
