So I read we can now change the carrier name from Verizon Wireless to anything we want with 16 char's. In the Droid, you edited the eri.xml file from the framework.apk. When I did this, I didnt see anything that said Verizon Wireless in HEX. Did a lil research and this seems to only apply to the Droid. Question I have is, has anyone found where we can edit this for the Eris. Thanks in advance.

no known method as yet. the carrier name is set via radio. (confirmed via Jamezelle, creator of Sense-able)

I'm a little confused. How does the radio know which carrier you pay money to? I flashed mine with a Sprint Hero Radio (as it was most current) and it didn't change my carrier name to Sprint. I may be misunderstanding here, but just throwing in my two cents...

the radio knows who it it sending its signal to and who it is receiving from. every phone has a unique ID and when it pings a tower with that ID (even shared towers), the phone gets a response from the correct carrier. sprint isnt talking to your phone ;) thats a rough explanation, but i think it makes sense.

I put froyo on my phone and now it says sprint on the lock screen and when I pull the notification bar down. I remember with my HTC Touch and before that, with my xv6700, there was a way to tweak this; I could change it to say nothing, or anything. I changed to say my name.

I highly doubt that the radio changes this. I know that people would think it does, because when your start your phone, it says nothing, and then when you get a signal it changes to Verizon Wireless. But with the new rom, why didn't the signal automatically change it back from saying Sprint to Verizon Wireless. Currently it says Sprint on my VZW phone.

Again, I must emphasize I have been able to change this on my two previous phones. just wanted to see if anyone found out how to do this on the droid ERIS. Thanks!

Yep. Read the first entry here: https://github.com/punk-kaos/KaosFroyo/wiki/kaosfroyo-faq#UIstuff

There used to be a flashable zip file called ChangeVZW.zip somewhere but I can't find it. That was a little bit easier.
