Root OK, I think I'm going to root...

I'm thinking of rooting and If I do I will use unrEVOked's 1 click method.

My question(s) are:

Will this root method work on the SLCD screens? I'm kind of nervous to brick my phone because I just got it last Friday but I really would like to root it so I can use setCPU to preserve battery.

Also, just to make sure I'm doing everything correctly *assuming this method works for SLCD*

I D/L'd the drivers and unrEVOked
click on device manager, android shows up with a yellow ? (Is this ok???)
plug in phone, usb debug, ask me and charge mode enabled
shut phone off
power volume down to hboot
run unrEVOked, WAIT for it to do its thing
Reboot, look in app drawer for SU app
D/L and flash the SLCD fix zip
Create a backup
Reboot

Then I'll find a kernel that supports OC and Under volting. BTW, do you flash a kernel the same as you would a ROM? Place in root of SD and flash from recovery?

Forgive me If I seem over cautious, I'm just very nervous with screwing around with stuff like this, especially because I've only has my Inc for a couple weeks. On my Eris if it wasn't for the 1 Click Root, where you literally clicked the trackball once and you were rooted, I probably never would have done it because I'm a baby haha

Thank you in advance for the help everyone :)

Yes it works on SLCD I did one today.

Use this guide steps 1-7 plus the additional step before #8 under "Section 1 'Rooting the phone'"

After I did this mine booted up normal to my home screen (it might boot up to a black screen with 2 white lines in this case pull your battery, put back in and turn phone on normally)

I then made a SD card backup of photos, music, wallpapers, etc only user data on my PC then formatted the SD card to FAT32. I then downloaded http://adrynalyne.us/files/recovery/cwm/PB31IMG_cwm_mod.zip , renamed it to PB31IMG and dropped it on the root (not in any folders) of my SD card.

Power phone off then boot into HBOOT by holding volume down then pressing and holding power button till screen comes on. It will see the PB31IMG file and follow the instructions. This will give you a visible recovery on your SLCD

You can us adryn's custom kernel #2 which enables all governors and allows setcpu underclocking. It is here and yes flash it just like a ROM

All this is easy, but is much more involved than the Eris (have one too)

Just read that guide I posted above and understand all the terms and what you are doing really well before you jump in. Nothing wrong with being thorough and patient before you begin ;)

[/B]drawkcab25;1847547]You should NOT have a yellow exclamation point in your device manager. You need to download AND install the drivers by unzipping the drivers you downloaded and pointing your computer to them when it asks to install new hardware when your phone is plugged in.

I installed all the necessary drivers so I'm not sure why its showing the yellow exclamation point. Not to sound like a completely illeritate person, but, how would I go about pointing my computer to the drivers I installed?

Thank you very much for this guide. I'm not near my computer but am definitely going to read everything you posted before I jump into rooting. I also have to figure out what's going on with the drivers & why they're not reading my phone.

Just to update. I finally rooted my Inc last night. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be thanks to the write up in this thread from jbdan and the one from Bob Denny. I had some issues with the drivers not installing properly but finally figured it out.

I've read a lot of threads about OverClock/UnderVolt. Some say you don't need a custom kernel to use setCPU to OC/UV some say you do. I'm perfectly happy running a stock ROM/Kernel/Radio and don't want to start flashing new ones, yet ;). So, can I use setCPU with the stock HTC kernel? I've searched xda for the newest version of setCPU and haven't been able to find one, does anyone have the apk I can d/l?

Also, I'm looking to install a circle battery in the notification bar and most of the one I found need a ROM that is Deodoxed (sp) Is there anyway to flash these zips being stock? Literally setCPU and the circle battery are the few things I wanted out of root (along w/ a few apps, wireless tether and adfree android) so if anyone can help me I'll be very grateful. Thanks in advance

This is the stock deodexed rom, you can use setcpu with the stock kernel only to underclock, it is not undervolted, only custom kernels are.
Virtuous ROM: Other Releases

I was just looking at this ROM in the other thread you answered my question in. So, this is completely stock and I could flash themes that only work on deodoxed ROM's? Does everything work properly, wifi mms, etc in this ROM? I'm assuming it does since it's stock, just rooted, but you know what they say about assuming
