Is this phone any good?

Hi

I have been looking at various reviews of this phone and while mixed it seems good for the cost. Would like to hear some feedback from someone who actually owns one and uses it day to day. I am buying it for the wife at Xmas, I have a Desire and while I dont expect it to come near that it still looks pretty good and usable.

How is the touchscreen, have seen vids of people using stylus's on the screen is this necessary?
I take it the front is glass so if she was using a Stylus it wouldn't scratch?
How is using the keyboard and would she be able to use Skype if I happened to be able to get it for her?

I have noticed that this phone is now Rootable, might be interesting if some Dev starts doing Roms for it.

Anyway I think that is all I want to know for now.

I just upgraded to a wildfire.
i my answer is no
the screen picks up even the tiniest of scratches.
Wi-Fi isnt that good ( disconnects and reconnects )
Batter life is prob the worst phone i have ever had ever
keypad is ok but its resistive touch screen so not great
Apps arnt that good either
There wont be an official 2.2 Froyo Update
screen also picks up alot of dust and is very annoying

no not yet not sure how z4root doesn't work and not sure of others.

Brilliant phone. Used my Nectar points to pay for it @ Argos

Does everything the big phones do. GPS, WiFi, I use Google Navigation all the time. My car has an athermic windscreen so some cheap GPS receivers don't work, this one works with no problems at all. The WiFi is great, I use the WiFi keep alive app, but I did on my last phone as well.

ok take out the battery and wait 5 secs then put it back in the press the vol + and the power button it should boot only to the green android logo and the red light stays on

extract it to your c:\ then inbstall the drives if needed then click install-recovery-windows.bat once done the fone will reboot once booted pull out the battery once more the put it back in the hold the vol- button and press the power button it will boot into recovery

yes you will need to conncet it to the pc

nope fastboot aint working press volume plus and power and boots up normally.
