Google Calendar SMS reminders

I've read several times about using Google Calander to send SMS reminders for upcoming events. How do I set this up?

1. Logged onto gmail
2. Clicked Calendar
3. Clicked Settings
4. Clicked Calendar under Settings
5. Clicked Notifications by my Calendar name
6. Set up SMS notification under events
7. Created an event on my phone
BUT
No notification and when I checked the event on Google Calendar it shows no notification.

What am I doing wrong?

On a sidenote: I have not posted here in awhile. Are others seeing popup adds, or do I have a problem on my system?

Inside Google Calendar, go to Settings -> Calendar settings -> Mobile Setup (one of the tabs at the top of settings, along with General, Calendars, etc.) -> Go through the setup process (they will send a verification code to your cell, etc.)

Hope this helps!

So you're saying, after doing this, you can create an event on you're phone and you'll get the text reminder?

I really want it to work, but I've tried and just can't get it to happen.

After doing the above steps, if you create an event online (google.com/calendar) and add a reminder of type SMS, then you will receive a text message reminder.

If you create an event on your calendar and make a reminder for that event from your phone, then it will be the equivalent of creating a reminder online of the type Pop-up. If you do that, then you'll still get a reminder, but it will just pop up in your notification bar... it won't be an actual text message.

So I'm not missing anything. Thank-you.
