Help how to set the default settings?

Hi all, every time my phone turns on, I almost always turn some settings off or on. Same ones, same way, every time. Like, I'll turn GPS on when I need it, but until then it's a battery drain. Now what I'd -like- is to be able to set default settings so that when the phone comes on, it's right how I want it with having to fiddle around. I would like to set at least:
Wi-Fi, GPS, cell location, GPS (wireless-- what is that?).

Is there a way I haven't found to do this? Thanks!

How are you turning off/on your settings and how often to you reboot your phone?

Power cycle the phone almost every night while I sleep. I turn on/off my settings either through the Menu->Settings (the long way) or via the Toggle Settings application and/or the Power Manager app (the short way).

My best guess it that you have your power manager app configured to turn off/on the apps at certain battery level which will override your manually changing the settings every time... try disabling the power manager and manually turning off the features like gps then try rebooting the phone that should do the trick... if you are going to manually turn off these things you probably don't need power manager anyway.... better to get a quick toggle app it'll take up less space and allow one touch on off for most of the stuff....

GPS and wireless are different... GPS Global positioning is to locate your exact position using satellites and it is a HUGE power drain recommend you leave it off unless using an app specificly made for it... Wireless is wifi allowing you to connect the same as if you would with a pc in your home wireless (WiFi)... it is a huge power drain when not connected because it is ALWAYS searching but if it is connected it actually seems to drain less power than 3g probably because the connection is more stable and constant.... hope that helps...

There is also a GPS Wireless on the phone. It gives you an general location based on trianglation (sp) from cell towers.

If you use this with google maps it will show a large blue circle of where it thinks you might be. It is not very accurate, but will get you in the neighbor hood.

Locale lets you setup defaults. Be forewarned that using location as a situation criteria is the least reliable. It's great with calendar events, and time though.

punkzanyj, I had Locale installed, but to make the location awareness more detailed, it required turning on GPS, which is enough of a battery drain that I eventually uninstalled it. Good idea about using it only for the scheduling portion, but that would require having a regular daily schedule... what's that like?

I don't have a regular daily schedule, so I use the calendar option in locale, so the settings change based on the appointments already in my google calendar, it's really simple, you can scroll through your week/month adding checks to boxes rather quickly.

I don't use the location information because wireless tech isn't there yet. if anything causes any interference -- I should say WHEN anything causes any interference, it looses the location info and reverts to "defaults".

If you want to use the location information, without GPS, and the "location" in question is a large area (IE, "work") you can create a wide enough bubble around the building/block that it doesn't loose you so easily. I did that back when I did have a regular 9 to 5 job and it seemed to work. What I did was, while in my office, had the non-gps location information show where I was, and based my location marker on THAT area rather than the address of my building, and spread it out to about 3 blocks.

Yes, thanks, I am aware that the cell tower-based GPS isn't that accurate. And real GPS is a battery drain.

So I just reinstalled Locale, and set up a situation based on calendar settings. True, it does work, thanks again, but it means that if I have recurring events (most of them, for a while at least), which are so easy to set up in Google calendar, I gotta also go make sure that all occurrences are set up in Locale. Ugh. Unless there is some way I didn't see to set up Locale settings for a series of recurring events. Or, since I have a separate Google calendar with every one of those recurring items, if there was a way to set up Locale situations PER CALENDAR, it would be fairly easy indeed. Is that possible?

I know this is an old thread...but did anybody was able to find out how to set Locale to change the setting for all meetings instead of clicking each appointment individually?

Basically, I would like to setup my phone in a way that it was silent (or in vibrating mode) during the time of any meeting, without having to go to the settings and checking which one of them.

I'm not sure this answers your question, but after more thought, since my things are regularly scheduled weekly, I was able to move it from a Calendar condition to a Time condition. Working great now. Lovin' me some Locale now.
