Help usb tether problem on optimus s

Alright, so I want to usb tether my optimus s, however when I turn onusb debugging, my computer says I need to get the driver for the phone. If anyone knows where I can get the stupid thing, it would be an immence help. I've already got pdanet and it just wont read the damn phone. Please help me with this. Oh and I'm writingthis on my phone so please excuse thehorrible spelling.

The sub-Forum for the Optimus S might be a bit more help . I have been having the same problems myself....I just didn't care enough to post about it yet....I was able to get my hotspot working .

What kind of computer are you using by the way? Can you connect it via WifI?

You can download the QuickSetting App to enable the wifi hotspot to get your computer connected to the internet via your optimus S. I have mine setup, and I also don't have to pay for the additional service charge.

I use PDANET.

I also had driver problems. I emailed PDANET and they sent me instructions to check to see if the driver was loaded properly. (It was not) and then a link to a new driver to try. That did work. One piece of advice, they DID NOT tell me to uninstall the driver that was not working. I knew to do that.

They sent me a link for some lg pc suite or something and I'm in the process of installing that right now. Is that the same program you used for yours to work? How straight forward was it and did you have to configure anything else for it to work?

So, I'm new to the whole android thing and am a little confused. I can use pdanet with the optimus s, but I need certain drivers first? And to get those I should email pdanet? Besides which, if I'm just needing basic internet at home, is tethering going to be enough for me? Finally, is quicksetting somehow related to rooting the phone, because I don't know that I want to do that. Again, I'm new to this and all.

No debugging does not need to be on matter of fact mine disconnects from the pc when I turn debugging on. winders should see your phone automatically unless you changed defaults on your pc.
The drivers are out there cause i dld them before i got my phone but never needed them.
Quick Settings is a great app for you to access hidden features an is a mentioned in the tether thread.

To clarify, usb debugging doesn't disconnect your device. You can still transfer information. Some root apps require debugging to be on in order for the interface to work properly.

Pdanet does work on tether. It may take a little troubleshooting on your system. I had to download PdanetA242b.exe to get it working.

I use Sprint. I have 2 each Lg Optimus s wifi cell phones with hotspot and tether wifi, Vista desktop pc with wifi card, crossosver cable, XP laptop with wifi card, Kingston docking station, ethernet router.
Is it possible to use the wifi hotspots or the wifi to network both computers? If so would I have a reasonable amount of security? I have Mcaffee suite on the laptop. I know if I use the cell phone hotstpot I can connect both computers to the net through it. But will that let me share the computers printer/drives etc?
If so, how to do it?

Okay, so I read through the thread and nobody posted links to the drivers. Let me first off say that all credit for this goes to gbhil at AC and you can view the OP here.

Everything below is taken directly from gbhil's OP and I take no credit for this whatsoever. I'm just the messenger.


1. Download the LG Mobile Support Tool to your Windows computer from LG right here.
2. Install it, and while the phone is DISCONNECTED open the program.
3. Under the Options & Help menu, choose Country & Language. Set Singapore as your country, and English as your language (unless you prefer another of the listed languages. Hillbilly was not listed.)
4. Next, on the main window choose to install the USB driver, and choose LGP500 as the model number.
5. Wait while the app downloads and installs 4 or 5 separate drivers.
6. On your Optimus One, enable USB debugging and plug it in.

You now have the ADB driver, and the USB modem drivers installed.

Here are the full instructions from start to finish on how to get USB tethering working on Windows 7 on Sprint LG Optimus S using another method. You will need a 3G-connected Android phone, an internet-connected Windows PC, and the USB cable to connect the phone to the PC.

2) Scroll down to post #8, where the actual driver file package is posted. Register for a user profile on androidcentral if you don't already have one.
3) Click the 3rd link, where the driver files are hosted on another site.
4) Download only the top file, LGAndroidDriver_WHQL_ML_Ver_1.0_All_Win7
5) Install it on your Windows PC (I only tried Win7 so far)
6) On your Optimus S, enable USB Debugging, through the Settings->Applications->Development menu
7) Plug your Android into your PC through USB. Lots of drivers should be installing now. Wait until they're all done installing.
8) Unplug your Android from the PC.
9) Go to Android Market on your Optimus S, and install the free app PDANet. After install, it may ask you if you want to download more software for your PC Desktop client. Don't download that on the phone, instead choose "Already Installed".
10) On your PC, go to the PDANet page here : PdaNet -- USB Tether/Bluetooth DUN for Android and click on Download for Windows, then install it.
11) During the install, it should warn you that you already have Android drivers installed. It will ask you if you want to reinstall more drivers anyway. I clicked No, don't reinstall any drivers.
12) After that, it will ask you to connect your Android to your PC. Do it, and connect through USB.
13) The PDANet install on Windows should now complete, and you will have a small PDANet icon in the lower right corner.
14) Now to use USB tethering, go to the app "PDANet" on your Optimus S, and run it. Click on "Enable USB Tether". Then go back to your PC, and click on the PDANet icon in the lower right corner, and select the top choice "Connect Internet".

I've recently downloaded Hotspot Widget. It basically turns my S into a wifi hotspot and I can connect multiple computers to it. The widget doens't work with all Android versions, so you might want to read up before installing it.

Mine's ver 2.2.1, Kernel ver 2.6.32.9 lge@android-build #2, build number zvc

Did u reboot or come out of airplane mode & then test . I would uninstall .reinstall .reboot & then drag the hotspot up & try it
