Favorite App so far.... Developers please see link to Announcements above.

It's sad that more people don't post their favorites here. :( I went through all 22 pages (over a couple weeks) and found quite a few gems.

BTW here are a couple of my current favorites:

Audiogalaxy - Stream your music and playlists from your computer to your Android phone for free!

LauncherPro - Seriously the best home replacement out there. Believe me, I tried them all, including ADW.Launcher Ex several times, but LP is simply the best. Although I really do like how customizable ADW is with icons and text size and ADW's 8 or so page transition options.

Smart Keyboard PRO - Keyboard replacement. I tried the rest, but like this one best.

Gesture Search - Gesture Search lets you quickly find a contact, a bookmark, an application, or a music track on your device by drawing on the screen. Search results are updated as you add each letter or digit and becomes better by learning from your search history.

UltimateFavesPRO - UltimateFavesPRO is the most unique and comprehensive organizer for Android!

App Protector Pro - Lock any application on your phone: SMS, Message, Gmail, Photo, Gallery, Market..any app u choose! You can choose to only lock sensitive apps, while leave other apps unlocked. No more worry when show your phone to friends.

Folder Organizer - Group items according to labels and create fully customizable folders and widgets. You can organize apps, bookmarks, contacts and shortcuts.

WidgetLocker Lockscreen - Place Android Widgets and Shortcuts on your lock screen. Long-press to move just like in Home. Many settings, such as volume keys at lockscreen or trackball unlock.

Those would be mine as well. Also Tweetdeck.

Just found the official Redbox app and that's about to be my favorite.

I think there's another thread on this matter but can't find it.
What do you think are the best apps to have on your droid?
I have a bunch of nonsense but I like them:
Romania Currency (I'm romanian)
Feroviar (romanian) - for finding trains and hours
Barcode scanner
Is it healthy? - I'd like a version of this app that would tell me anything I ask, not just the bad stuff (for example I can't find E100; what should I understand? is it healthy or there's no E100 in it's database?)
WeatherBug (tried other apps but this is the best for Romania)
Farm Story, Kingdoms, Vampires - online games
FxCamera - takes pictures and applies interesting effects
Picasa Tool
Coveroid Wallpapers - HD wallpapers
Garfield comic viewer
Pedometer Widget Lite
Angry birds Seasons - 'course :)
Battery Life

Welcome to the forum KaRaan25,

Like you stated, there are a number of threads about this subject already, so don't be surprised if you don't get much feed back. I'm not trying to give you a hard time, just stating the facts.

Here is a link to a long running thread on the subject..

Happy tinkering.

I merged them here instead. :)

While in the neighborhood -

SwiFTP - no more plugging in to the computer. Now the Shift is a WiFi network resource for photo uploads and music downloads by drag and drop.

No more "preparing SD card" - slower than USB but for the convenience, who cares?

how do I set this up with windows 7?

How to Link (Map) an FTP Server or Directory in Windows 7

With SwiFTP, they'll tell you the ftp string to input - it's going to look something like:

ftp://192.168.0.9:2121

You won't need the share name, but if Windows insists, suggest you try:

ftp://192.168.0.9:2121/sdcard

That ought to do it.

I suppose I have more or less finished with my app adding/modding my phone for a while...although maybe not who knows lol.

Before I begin, I should note that I value performance above anything. Thus I don't really care too much for widgets or pretty things.

These are the apps that I have been really impressed with:

ADW Launcher EX: Great home replacement that is super fast with lots of custom features that you can set to optimize your experience. I have mine optimized for speed although I did have to give it a nice transition between home screens. Paid app, although a free version is available.

Dolphin Browser: Mini or HD. Very fast browser with some quick "gesture" settings so you can load specific web pages quickly by making motions with your finger. Saves time over accessing the bookmarks or typing it out. Free app.

Unified Remote: Remote control your computer through a common wifi network with your phone. Works best if you are in the same room with it although you don't have to be (you can't see the computer screen on your phone). Can control everything from your phone that you can at the actual computer including keyboard, mouse, shutdown options, browser, file explorers, media players and picture viewers. Extremely fast lag-free interface means you can freak your friends out or just be lazy as crap from across the room without slowing your phone down or eating up battery life. Free app (best part!)

Pocket Cloud: More advanced version of the above. Remote control your computer from anywhere with an internet connection (doesn't have to be the same wifi network). With this app you see your computer screen on your phone. This app is more resource intensive to operate but it works, and works well. Comparable to Phonemypc. Has sounds which Phonemypc does not. Free app, although a paid version with more features is available. I could control the entire computer with it so I don't know what extra use the paid version would provide, maybe a little more speed.

Androlib Wallpaper Library: Good resource for finding wallpapers, especially for lazy people like me who don't like to do a lot of searching. Saves wallpapers in a unique folder, which makes it work really well with... (Free app)

Wallswitch: Automatically changes my wallpaper over a customizable interval from a gallery in a user specified folder. Free app.

JetVD: Download and save youtube videos in FLV, 3GP, or MP4 format. This is great for when you want to show a video to someone but are constantly losing data connection, or if you just want to save a youtube video. Free app.

Lookout: Good security app for your phone. Protects from malicious software, also has an online file backup and GPS/Network locator feature in case your phone is lost, and can wipe data and sound an alarm with a trigger message in case of theft. Free app.

Screenshot: Take an easy screenshot of your phone. Your phone must be rooted. Free app.

Some of the standards I also use a lot:
Facebook
Gmail
Google Talk
Google Maps
Google Sky Map
All above are free apps.

Some apps that come highly recommended by others that I tried and didn't like:

Setcpu. Only reason for this is because my phone would not support overclocking even though it is rooted. Otherwise it would work great.

Appbrain. Interesting way of sorting applications I guess, but I didn't find it to be any quicker or more informative than the stock market app.

Beautiful Widgets. Might be useful to others, but to me the widgets just overcomplicated my home screen. I could find no appreciable use in them, and received a refund.

Open Home. Home replacement. Looks nice, but I found that it was causing my phone to become slower the longer it ran until I wanted to throw the phone through a wall. ADW Launcher EX fixed this problem.

Tasker. The concept is neat, and a lot of people seem to like it. But honestly during the day the only settings I mess with is either to turn silent mode on/off or to turn wifi on/off. I couldn't see spending $6 on a program that I'd have to hope would do it automatically when I wanted it to instead of spending the two seconds it would take to do it myself. Probably more useful for people who are constantly changing settings.

My recommendations...

I'm still pretty new to Android but here are some apps I've found useful or find myself using regularly:

Grooveshark. The actual service does carry a $9/month fee (1 month free, I believe) but for me it is well worth it. Grooveshark has 50 times more of the genres and artists I listen to than Pandora.

1 Click Cleaner. While it's truly not a '1 click' solution, it seems to be doing a pretty good job for me in terms of tracking down and eliminating cache from just about any app on my phone. I believe there's also a pay-version for rooted phones but this seems to work fine for my stock one.

Skyfire Web Browser. I've tried the different flavors of Dolphin, Opera Mini, Miren and of course the factory browser but I like Skyfire the best. It's fast, plays most embedded/inline videos and reliable. I really don't care about all the extra 'social' stuff it does, honestly I wish they'd put out a version without all of it, but it's still my top browser choice.

Quick Settings. I'm not sure what sort of 'trickery' it uses but I do know that thanks to Quick Settings, I can now use my Optimus S as a wi-fi hotspot without incurring any additional fees from my carrier. In addition to this (it's really all I use it for, honestly) it also has quick on/off's for GPS, Volume and Ringer, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Mobile Data.

TweetDeck. I'm not a big personal social media user however I do run the Facebook/Twitter pages for the company I work for so something like this is imperative. Tweetdeck for Android has been just as reliable, feature-rich and easy to use as the desktop version. Now I can actually go out for lunch and still schedule my tweets for the week.

Google Voice. Google Voice is pretty much a necessity. Now thanks to having an Android phone I can keep tabs on my texts and calls either via the Chrome extension or anywhere with the mobile app. I didn't really like how it tried to virtually 'take over' (inquiring as to whether I wish to use Google Voice or my actual phone/SMS service) initially but I quickly got past it.

Imgur For Android. I take and send a lot of pictures and usually use Imgur from my desktop so the app seemed like a no-brainer. It works reliable and easily, no issues with it at all.

Chrome To Phone. I am an avid Chrome user on my PC so this seemed like a no brainer. Sends links, maps, e-mail addresses, basically anything you're looking at in Chrome to your phone.

One thing I don't use/don't get all the hype and fuss about...

SMS drop-ins. At one point or another since I've had my Optimus S, I've installed GoSMS, ChompSMS and Hancent and I just don't get the hype. If I wanted my text conversations to look like I were having them on an iPhone, I'd buy an iPhone. The standard Android 2.2 messaging app works just fine, in fact, I actually prefer it's predictive text to any of the 3rd party ones I tried.
