I went to the store and played with it twice. I'll prolly play with it again if my warehouse club has one of display. I want a tablet today but I can't convince myself it's worth it.

Do you do THAT in public?

How's the web browsing on the gtab? Does flash work well? Any major cons? At $300, I might be in for one.

Rocks hard and Flash works amazingly well. I also use a 64gb thumbdrive for movies and PSX roms. Two cons:

1 Need to install a modded rom to get the best function, but not needed if you do not want to. Super easy though.

2 Display looks great straight on, but not same great angles as Xoom.

I don't understand why moto doesn't make the xoom play any video file without re-encoding. To me this would be a cheap way to one-up the ipad. The Archos tablets already play any video file. Another easy advantage would be to include a dlna client. If the xoom had both of these items, I would buy one today.

They really need to improve that if they want to take on the iPad/iPad2. One of the main functions of a tablet is portable video. It needs to do better there. I'm sure they'll get there, but, at the moment any video over 960 res seems to stutter for me. UGH.

I hate delays while typing text on this forum, not sure if this is xoom issue anyway. I hate no flash and no SD card as well, I might return this device if something else will be found while next two weeks.

That can be good or bad (for current apps). Need the USB host, so unless the Xoom or another device gets it, not a practical option for me.

BTW: The microsd card issue may take longer to fix than folks may expect. The dynamic storage management makes a microsd kind of an odd one out. Android will need to make a driver just for the Xoom's card slot. Seems the intent of Honeycomb is to make a contained storage system like Apple and Windows phone.

Interesting to see how this pans out. Will the microsd being added simply add to all total space, or be treated as a seperate logical location? The former creates problems unless you always leave the card in.

One of the things I liked about the ipad was the ability to rent movies via itunes. I hope google gets a movie store out soon. I love honeycomb though

Played with the xoom at costco. Nice but not $800+ nice yet.

As soon as I heard the final price a week ago I bought an ipad. $430 for 32gb wifi model. Jailbroke it first day.

Using Filebrowser for access NAS at work.
Netflix is awesome.
Movies look great.
Ass load of games are loaded.
Evernote, Dropbox, and box.net work perfectly.
Lack of Flash sucks a big dong as does Jobs. Can't stress this enough.

Overall I'm pretty happy and I got a pretty good deal. Anyone who is not ready to shell out the $ for the xoom and finds the galaxy tab to small might want to consider picking up an ipad and molesting it for a while. If you can handle the hacking the gtab sounds pretty nice.

It will be interesting to see how the IPad II impacts Xoom sales. Most people are not a crApple haters like we are here. In fact for the average user they love the iOS format. The thing is we all want the most for our money we want a device with legs. This is why I think I will wait till Wen. to see what the I2 will offer.

I read an article on MSN today that suggests that the iPad2 isn't such a huge improvement over the original iPad, but, it does have some useful parts. Probably some cameras, obviously a dual core proc, thinner, better battery life, etc. Basically a nominal upgrade as I've said before. But, here's the interesting part, they are suggesting that the iPad2 line as a whole could see a hundred dollar decrease in price across the board. That would be.....bad for Xoom sales. And I'm being kind. The article was very forthcoming about the fact that he was basically pulling this out of his nether regions and had no proof of that announcement, but, given that it's not a HUGE update over the original iPad line, it does seem plausible. Then again, Apple has never been known to compete well on price. Should be interesting to see what happens.

This mad rush to innovate and the tech industry battling for consumer dollars in what seems like a fairly PC saturated market is a two edged sword. Products life cycles are CRAZY short. Consumers vote with their wallets to keep manufacturers doing what they are doing. The Xoom is a device with a lot of potential. But it was shipped half baked, as many things are these days. What is worse, about the time they finally work out the bugs, the life cycle is over and no improvements follow. Or even worse the cycle ends with permanently unresolved bugs. Whatever the motivations WE are unwilling beta testers for Google, Verizon and Motorola. We have accepted this burden at a steep cost, which adds insult to injury. We get no acknowledgement from the vendors and are often treated badly for our trouble. I for one would like to suggest that the Xoom buying community demand a little something extra from Verizon. I feel that early adopters are entitled to compensation for this accommodation. The cost of the device will only drop, so we actually pay more to get less (anybody see the iPhone 3GS ads these days for $50?). I would like to see the cost of service reflect the reduced capabilities at least until the features are in place (Flash, 4G, more apps.. etc). I suggest we speak up. Either individually or in a petition. I'm not suggesting a class action but VZ certainly owes us something for our loyalty in light of the iPad2 impending release. I'm a fan of Google and Android but fair is fair.

Are.... are you serious? I'm sorry, but speak with your wallet and don't buy it. Reviews were in the day before it came out, and if you are an "unwilling beta tester", then take the time to read reviews and see if you're willing to live with them.

And as for your "half baked" accusation, even with the few missing features, it still outclasses the first gen iPad by leaps and bounds. With the limitations, it's still neck and neck with the iPad2 and is set to surpass it pending these updates.

I think you missed my point here. I AM willing to live with the temporary limitations. I DID read the reviews. But I think the early adopters have a right to be compensated for their trouble while the thing gets the wrinkles worked out. I work in IT support. I'm exposed every day to unkept promises and no accountability. I think Google, Moto and VZ are entitled to a premium price for a premium product and premium service. But until they deliver that with the Xoom I propose we deserve compensation as consumers. I know it's a new idea to expect things to actually be fully functional at the time they hit the shelves. When was the last time you bought a car where you had to take it back to the dealer at some unknown future date for an upgrade. And meanwhile the radio doesn't work? It's about managing expectations. Or in this case it's about having our expectations managed for us.

My car has had plenty of recalls and parts replaced. People should not be early adopters if they cannot cope with some shortcomings. I can't tell you how many times I had to reboot my Apple 2e, buggy as hell.
