Better Google Voice SMS app?

Is there a better app that would allow me to send SMS messages through Google Voice than the default one? I have a number of issues with the Google provided app:

* It doesn't thread correctly. It will randomly create a new thread for messages with the same contact
* I can't send to multiple people simultaneously
* I'd like to see a popup when I get a text, even when the screen is locked

Are there other apps that let me do this through the Google Voice service?

Yeah. That part bothers me too. GV creates a new thread after each day. Seems like it sorta resets for whatever reason. It's not just the GV app but GV itself. It does the same thing when I text using the website.

I agree. Add the fact that notification is labeld Voicemail for both voicemail and texts.

For any developers who read this thread -- there is a google voice sms api, but it's not well documented.

Please make this app. Google's official sms app is an insult. I would pay $10 for a good substitute. It's worth far more than that in saved agitation alone.

Hmmm, googling that shows me that's available for the iPhone only though.

EDIT: Oh, nevermind - I see it there.

I just want the UI for GV to be customizable.

What exactly does gv SMS do? There's very little info on it, hasn't been updated on a long time and only 500 downloads, but it costs $1.90.

Many of us are looking for a Go SMS/Handcent/Chomp SMS type thing to use with google voice.

I emailed all of those times and the Chompsms team wrote back and told me they are working on it. This was already months ago and they didn't give an ETA then, so who knows if they'll ever really do it.

So GV SMS is a complete stand alone app that you open up and you can text to people in your contact list and you can receive texts in that app?

Does it have it's own built in notification system?

What more can you tell us? There's so little info on this app.

And UI isn't as nice as the official GV app? How could the UI be any more vanilla than that?

1. Yes, but it goes through Google Voice, so you need that installed too.

Hey guys.. just wanna spread the word -- since I use Google Voice for all of my SMS, this issue has been a pain for me. I like the Google Voice SMS app.. but the notification options have been KILLING me.

there's finally an app on the market that supports Google Voice Notification popups, actually using the Google Voice App.

I'm not the developer and have no affill with the company, but been waiting for this forever. I posted here-- totally worth checking out!

Also, since he's on to something, I contacted him, and he's already got up a Google Voice Notification app on the market that I'm sure he'll be refining. Super excited..
