Help How are you watching movies?

Yea, tbh, I don't really know what the difference is. I just read the warning and was like "uh, ok, I guess I better do this." I tried my dark knight video and it played flawlessly. I don't have my mp4 server running right now so I can't try others at the moment. I need to figure out if we can use this as the default player. That'd be sweet.

My first attempt with MKV wasn't so good. I crashed MoboPlayer big time. It could be that I simply answered my question about high profile support. LOL! However, that's not looking good so far.

EDIT: Tried software decoding on it. It "plays" but it's stuttering like crazy and loses audio sync almost immediately due to the video not keeping up. So, it's not better for me than the internal player. High profile...not a chance.

im not going to have internet oviously for the 8 hour plane ride and i really want to watch movies.. so that makes amazon movies out of the question. i need something to be downloaded onto my tablet so i dont need internet to watch please help im leaving soon. and a step by step or video is awesome.:D

I was in the same situation as you and I'm leaving tomorrow on vacation. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to just download movies on your xoom and streaming is out of the question anyway w/o wifi. Here are some options although it sounds like they might not work for you.

1. Get a movie saved on your regular PC: rip a DVD, download it from hotfile123 (or similar) or use a torrent to download (just make sure it's all legal).
2. Convert it to MP4 if needed. This is the only format I've found yet that plays flawlessly. I used "Any Video Converter" but I just downloaded "Freemake" and it seems better but I have not tested it. Download.com is a great place for downloads.
3. Connect your xoom to your pc and save the MP4 on your zoom in the "movie" folder. I use the internal xoom player but the only way I found to access it was to install a file APP on my xoom and go directly to the movie folder.

Even with everything above, there are still some small issues like audio sync and video conversion settings. It sounds like a pain but it's actually pretty easy once you get going. Now I'm transferring like crazy...movies, TV episodes, THE CLONE WARS...the VIDEO QUALITY ON THE XOOM IS EXCELLENT!

Ok, then you're going to have to wait for DVD Catalyst to fix it. Bummer. Give him a few days. :) I know I was able to do it by adding the m2ts file as I have the output sitting in my digital copy dir as we speak and it's English. So I don't know what I did differently on that one.

It took a bit longer than a few days, but I just released Beta 3. A lot has changed though.

*updated manual
*bluray support (still needs AnyDVD HD)
*new conversion engine
*better multi-core support
*blackberry playbook profiles
*basic activity log

looks like there mighe be an issue with the download link.
From the app, when I click on yes to DL, I am brought to this page;
Beta | Tools4Movies - Home of DVD Catalyst

but the download never starts.

The download does work, but it might be that your webbrowser is preventing it from directly downloading the file.

I'll pm you a link.

What are the chances that we will be able to watch movies eventually on the Xoom? If so, will the number of movies available likely equal the amount that itunes has available for the ipad? Thanks

there is a qq player in my xoom, it supports a wide range of video formats. common videos can be played well except dvd or bluray movie.i often use the third-party software to do with dvd or bluray discs for my xoom, but the conversion process take a long time.

What I want is a straightforward piece of software that will rip blu-rays and convert them into a HQ format that I can transfer to the Xoom.

I was all for dvdcat until I realised I had to use anydvdHD as well. Anyone have any real user-friendly solutions. I have used video conversion software many times in the past but something more straightforward must exists? Happy to pay if something works well enough.

The AnyDVD HD requirement for DVD Catalyst (or use DVDfab Passkey for Bluray, which is similar or MakeMKV to turn your bluray into an MKV) is only for the bluray portion. DVDs and most (non-DRM) video files can be converted without the need of additional software.

The thing is, with the continuous updates of Bluray, I don't want my customers to run into complications. If you pick up a bluray conversion tool now, it will likely work with all the BR's that are available at this point, but what about the movies released next month? Slysoft has a reputation of being on-the-ball with these things, so if people use AnyDVD HD, the chance of complications with a newly released Bluray is reduced to an absolute minimum. AnyDVD HD isn't cheap, but combined with the $10 pricing of DVD Catalyst, you are not that far off from most other bluray conversion tools.
