Wi-Fi Maintains Connection But Data Cuts Out.

I just bought a Sprint HTC EVO 3D and that is my main device now, but I am still using my Sprint HTC Hero as a personal media player and Wi-Fi device. Since I switched to the new handset, I now have the Wi-Fi turned on constantly on my Sprint HTC Hero along with it being set to Airplane Mode so it saves even more battery power since a cell signal is useless now.

My problem seems to be that, for some reason, my Wi-Fi will stay connected as it is set to never disconnect even when it is asleep, but the data will cut out and apps that require data will not update of course. I will come back and turn on the screen and try to go into the web browser or update the weather widget it will not work, despite still being connected to my Wi-Fi router. I actually have to toggle the Wi-Fi widget on and off to get the data working again. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this and how to remedy it?

I am currently on CyanogenMod 7. But lately I have been trying a few new ones from xda-developers too.

I tried turning Airplane Mode off and that did not help either. Neither did rebooting or clearing cache and Dalvik cache.

Using my Evo as a Hotspot, I haven't had any issues connecting. Right now, I'm using aospMod so maybe give that a try

So, I set a static IP address on my Sprint HTC Hero and the data seems to be more consistent now. That is really odd because I never had to do that when I used Wi-Fi before I switched to the Sprint HTC EVO 3D.

One other oddity that I noticed is that the Android Market does not like being opened when just under a Wi-Fi connection now and it will throw up a connection error. If I turn on the cellular radio, but I am still using Wi-Fi for data, then it will work.

Do you have the new market on the Hero or Evo 3D? The new market seems to have an issue with updating apps. It's like there's an update, but the update link is not there

No, I did not install the new Android Market .apk file. I heard it was actually rather large in size and figured I would save my internal memory space.

I have seen some complaints about the upgrade problem with the new Android Market app. I hope that Google can figure it out and update it swiftly.

My Wi-Fi data still cuts out even with the static IP address. I really am not sure how to fix it besides trying a different ROM or just redoing this one. It is really strange because the data obviously works once in a while, as I still get new email pulled in my handset every so often. But if I unlock my handset and go to use the web browser, for example, it has no data connection, but of course the Wi-Fi is still connected just fine.

This has led to less than stellar battery life on my poor old Sprint HTC Hero. I think it is because it keeps trying to sync or update apps that require data but it fails. Heck, I was getting better battery life when I was constantly on 3G and using it heavily than I am now on Wi-Fi and barely touching it. That is obviously not right as Wi-Fi should use much less power than 3G.
