Android is starting to have some pretty cool audio apps these days, such as Rhapsody and MicroJam. Also the dence size of the SD card makes the phone an increasingly central place to store your mp3 collection. Because of this people will more and more be wanting to use their phone as a music source. Personally, I like not having my mobile devices wired to my stero by way of 3.5mm plug to the head phone jack and think it would be very cool for the phone to naturally be a wireless music source.

Technically this is what an Android app would have to do
1. create a music server using some type of standard (shoutcast for instance)
2. loop the Android's system audio output to the streaming server's input

Have either of these technical requirements been achieved yet in an Android app? And secondly, are they even possible? To accomplish #2 the app would have to have access to part of the system.

Hi, I have an app which does this in the "other direction", PC to phone. I would love to be able to support both directions but I know of no way to capture Android's system audio output on a non-rooted phone. Even on a rooted phone it might require some special tricks. I welcome any suggestions to help accomplish Android audio capture. I know it's possible to capture the voice call audio, but I'm interested in capturing high-quality output from music players and other audio apps.

See my app "SoundWire" on the market, https://market.android.com/details?id=com.georgie.SoundWireFree

Yes, you can do it, easily.

If you use Windows:

Launch the "media server" app from your device (if it's Samsung, its called Allshare)

Open Windows media player

Then look down the panel do the right, there will be an "Other libraries" menu, your mobile should pop in that list. Just play the video/song/picture from it.
