Thoroughly p*** about these phones...

Greetings from a newbie on this forum...

I'm new to Androids, been a BB user up to now. Never an issue with my BBs, B TW.

Over the past few weeks, I and my wife have tried the Samsung Galaxy S Good phone overall, but no flash. Voice dialing is very tenuous at best.

Tried the HTC Sensation but they forgot to include voice dialing so no hands-free with a bluetooth. How something as simple and necessary as hands-free voice dialing could have been forgotten on such a whiz-bang tech toy as the Sensation is beyond me. Sent it back.

Then, picked up the G2X. Came with 2.3.3. Voice dial works fine. GPS absolutely inoperable. Camera does not even approach the quality of the Sensation. But, remember, the Sensation Forgot the voice dial...

I think Tmo is turning around rejected phones, the G2X came with a charger that was in an opened bag.

I have neither the time nor inclination to spend entire days fiddling with toys that shoould operate from the start.

The G2X is going back. I think I'll wait on the Galaxy S2 or maybe even a new BB. My experiences with Androids have not been pleasant.

It seems like every single one of these phones has a problem.

Sad to say.

It could be that people are starting to get very picky, at the same time these phones are supposed to do what they claim they can.

G1 was good, but too small of a screen by today's standards, outdated software.

Nexus One had a faulty digitizer. I loved that phone otherwise. Only minor problem was small internal memory, but that could have been fixed by rooting. The digitizer was the most annoying thing in the world. I couldn't use the touchscreen when it was hot/charging.

G2 was pretty good. I suffered from some slow downs though. I was also over the keyboard and wanted to go back to the touchscreen only days like my Nexus One.

G2x comes in with all it's dual core glory and gives me issues with the GPS, random reboots and shutdowns. An extended wait for Gingerbread didn't really fix everything and it came with a new bug (a lag fest that makes the phone totally unusable with the screen flashing on and off every 10 seconds).

Conclusion?

I need to lay off spending money and accessories for these phones because my wallet is getting thinner and thinner each day. haha.

As I've said earlier, I really think that every manufacturer has some sort of problem with their phone line up, but at the same time I really do believe because of people being so outspoken and vocal about these matters that things may be blown out of proportion (...at times).

I guess if someone made the perfect phone, we'd have nothing to complain about, the forums would be dead and many people would be jobless. So I guess you could say it's a catch 22. lol

Yeesh, a BB? After being forced to use one at work for the past year I think I'd rather go back in time 5 years to a KRZR than ever touch another BB.

Other than the opened bag, what makes you think this is a recycled defective phone? What problems have you had? Had mine for months and it has been great. But there are definitely some bad ones out there.

Edit: now I see your GPS and camera issues. I haven't had the GPS problem, but the Gingerbread camera is bad. The Froyo cam was very nice. But compared to my BB the camera and GPS are lightyears better.

personally I think we are way to picky on these phones. EVERY phone I have ever had has had problems or missing features. People are treating these phones like there computers and well there not yet. I have the G2X and running 2.2.2 . This is my second one and its has been fine. Really the problems I have are the apps written from it causing problems if i strip back all the extras I have on this phone I do not have random reboots or any problems for that matter. the new update was forced and not finalized. Its strange some new phones even come with 2.3.4 now as well. One thing i'll say is it is nice to have a phone with no lag with programs. This phone runs apps fast.

Thought I'd get back with you on this G2X. I took it to the local Tmo store and had the rep look at it, still no good. So I called tech support again and they walked me through a system reset (I had done that before... but...) and this time things worke out better with the GPS. I mistakenly thought that a new phone from the factory had already been reset, but what the heck, doing it a (third) time seemed to work. The GPS is working now.

I also took a series of photos in various lighting conditions and I must say that they do not look bad.

So my overall impression of the G2X is now positive, and I'll probably keep it.

My perspective on these things may be a little different form some others on this forum. I'm a consumer, and I feel that things should work when I buy them. I should not have to call tech support just to get the thing to work. I believe the whole rush to market and extremely competitive nature of the beast means the manufacturers are pumping these things out and hoping we will just work through any issues.

But there is a tremendous return rate for all these phones, as very many people will not take the eime to try to work out the bugs. A friend of mine works at the local LG plant (Huntsville, AL) and he was in charge of (of all things) handling phone returns. They processed literally hundres per day. Which is why they cost us severl hundred dollars (on the open market) while the actual cost to manufacture a unit is much less than USD100.

As for the BB, I'm old enough to remember party lines and crank phones. I'm sure to some the BB is ancient technology, and an albatross, but it wasn't bad.

In any case, I just wanted to update my initial post, and set the record straight. But I still reject the notion that we should have to become Android tecchies just to use the darn things.

Ha HA that's funny so your the one ha ha. I too have had my G2x since early on I think 2 weeks after release and It runs like a champ It is my first android phone and I love it. Dont get me wrong it has had maybe 4 reboots since I got it 3 of them after the GB update. But I expected some things to happen it is a small computer no matter what people say. I have been around computers all my life and I have yet to meet a computer that does not have some issues they all do esp those shtity macs HA HA HA that's another issue. Anyway I would expect some issues but certainly not to the point that people have to become android tech just to use the phone so in a way I agree.

I was another one that was happy with the phone from the beginning. I am in a 2g area so the one problem I had wasn't as noticeable. My phone kept dropping signal when out and about, however at home I am always connected through wifi. It was nothing major at first but one day I had an emergency and I couldn't use my phone cause it lost signal. I decided todo an exchange but they sent a refurb and that was garbage. They exchanged that one and it works great except the signal. Like I said, it wouldn't be a problem, except when I really need to use my phone. But the phone itself performs great.
