Can I use the Moto Droid X with my metro service???

Depending on what area you live in you may have 3G. I am getting it in West Palm Beach. Not blazing fast but better. Nothing will be as good as the 4G you have with your Indulge. Keep it in my opinion, even if the Moto X is a better all around phone.

Just make sure you are running prl 3022.

He cant update his prl and also use 3G/4G because his phone will be flashed over. He will have to buy a metropcs branded phone which supports that to use 3G/4G and Web.

He can update his PRL to 3022, and he already has a branded Metro Phone, hence the Indulge. Updating to this PRL will give you access to the towers pushing 3G in your area. That's it. I will do nothing more. You will still have 4G, but instead of dropping down to 1x if there is no 4G, it will default to the fastest speed in that area which in some cases is 3G not 1x.

You will be able to do both 3G and 4G on your Indulge. You will only get as fast as 3G on the Droid X, as Metro's 4G and Verizon's 4G run on different frequencies so the Droid X will not connect to a Metro 4G tower.

And - the Droid X is only capable of 3g. DroidX cannot 'upgrade' to 4g when in range of a 4g tower. Some newer 4g models are backwards compatible. These newer models can connect to either 3g or 4g, depending upon location or weak/no signal, the DroidX can only use 3g. Be careful of any phone alleged to be on 4g because 4g will not be nation wide for another 12-20 months (at least from what I hear about Verizon, MetroPCS may be even further out)

Remember, DroidX hit the market June/July 2010 - using last years technology. I found this out the hard way when I chose to upgrade 4 months after my verizon '2 yr contract' expired (March 2011). DroidX is a great device and serves my purposes very well. Although I'm quite disappointed that 6 months later the DroidX has reached its "end of life" (not marketed, advertised & Google/Gingerbread updates are no more). Not unhappy with my DroidX at all, just that the after sale support by Motorola (now Google) and Android have pretty much disappeared.
