Help Closing an App

If i have the browser open for example, there is no "X" close button so how would i permanently close the app?

the back button works for most things, but for the browser, I've discovered it doesn't back out of a program and close it. It just does what a back button does on a desktop browser until you reach the first page you opened.

There are some apps on the market, I think there's one called "close everything" otherwise with a few exceptions, the back button closes a program, sometimes you have to back out one screen at a time, but that appears to be the way it works.

The Home button works more like "show desktop" and if you long press it it works like "alt-tab" except the list that comes up that way isn't necessarily open programs, but recent ones.
