Root Running low on disk space(but I'm really not)

Hi there everyone,

I've got an issue with my rooted Incredible running stock plus.

Today, I received notice of low disk space(phone storage space is getting low).

Under settings/storage, I have:

SD Card:

Total: 1.84 GB
Avail: 681 MB

Internal Storage:

Total: 6.46 GB
Avail: 5.66

Phone Memory:

Total: 784 MB
Avail: 488 MB

So, long story short; I am not sure what I might need to do to resolve this issue. When I installed the rom, I chose to wipe the caches. I don't know if that is of any importance.

Any help on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Well, it was kind of freaky, but while searching for a solution, I came across this link which is exactly my problem in a nutshell. I didn't mention the fact that Google Talk had stopped working and that my gmail wasn't syncing, because I was afraid I'd mix more than one issue together.

Going through my applications and deleting data got rid of the warning and google apps immediately began working again, but this is such a hokey band-aid. I lose all my settings for the apps in question just to get a temporary reprieve(which I know won't last long) and I've got tons of space sitting here not being used.

Is there a partition that needs to be enlarged or something of this nature?

Check out the first stickied thread under Support and Troubleshooting. Also if you're rooted there should be another partition listed under SD and Phone Storage settings called Application and data. That is the partition which is low on space.

Thanks very much for your help. I am rooted(well, I have superuser and run root-only apps) but I don't see an app & data section under my settings/sd & phone storage labeled "Application & Data. Is there another way for me to monitor the size/space remaining on this partition?

Sorry, it's actually labelled Application Data Storage, I'm not sure why you dont have it. I'm on version 2.3.4, the total space is 149MB and on my phone for example the space left is currently 97MB. Last week I decided to do factory reset (so I could get space back to get Oct OTA) I then rooted. I haven't flashed a ROM to permanently fix as sdrawcab35 posted, I seem to be holding pretty steady at around 95MB available by using Cache Cleaner NG (from Market) every day.

You can apply the fix on the stock software, as far as I know.

pretty sure the stock kernel does not support it. i tried multiple times. one of the xda devs told me the stock kernel does not support ext4 file structure. i flashed incrdikernel and the mod finally works. i haven't really found any other users report results running stock software...

My understanding is the fix flashed a new kernel (of course even if that's what the dev intented, doesn't mean that's how it works). And you certainly could flash a different kernel, then install the fix. By "software" I meant rom anyways.

that's what i thought also... but it sure didn't work after multiple attempts on my phone (including a stock reset). i have no idea what kernel they used (possibly incredikernel as i think tiny makes that one himself?). hence i was just trying to clarify that while you can run the stock rom with the mod - you may need to flash a non-stock kernel to make it work.

Hi there guys,

Just rezzing my thread to see if there's a fix that doesn't modify the FS to ext4. I'd love to be able to flash a zip that simply handles the moving of datadata and not deal with the EXT4 portion of it(using stock-plus, running the ext4 version just ends in a reboot loop).

no... this is the only fix i've seen...

fyi - i've been running this mod with stock+ rom and kernal for months now with no issues.

Thanks a bunch for the reply smiley. I tried it twice and both times it went into an infinitely repeating boot cycle and I'm tired of restoring everything after these failed attempts. The too small data/data has become less of a pain in the ass than the fix for me so I'll just deal with that, I think.
