I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

What size data plan are you guys on? Here in SA the dream comes with a 100mb data bundle, but I see my phone is constantly sending and receiving data via 3G, I wonder if this will be enough?

Thank you
Have a great day!

The Traffic from just the synchronizing of the phone maybe does not exceed the 100mb per month. But, if you really want to use the phone as intended I'd say that that plan is not enough. I use my phone for some email and news browsing, looking for apps in the market, some use of Google maps etc. .. I do not currently have exact numbers at hand, but with that still lightweight, not excessive use of this "always on" device, I have at least 200mb traffic per month.

If you are planning to use the phone's internet access like you would use a regular computer (browse the internet a lot, check emails etc.) then it may not be enough for you.

I clocked up about 22mb of data usage in just 2-3 days....
But I have an unlimited data plan....so I don't particularly need to worry about it...

If you want to keep tabs on what your data usage is...

You can download a Network Usage Counter from the Android Market.

There are a few out there that you can download.

I have 2 G1's on a family plan and just am looking at my May bill. I used 270MB this past month, the other G1 used 170MB. We have unlimited data.

If you are only able to afford a limited plan/unlimited not offered, I suggest you follow Rozza's suggestion.

I used to use a few thousand txt msgs a month, but needed to reduce by bill after I had an unlimited plan and dropped it to the 400 txt plan. I reduced many alerts like Weather, Sports and other things by using my phone's applications instead. The previous phone I had didn't have those.

Some other tricks, turn off images in the browser. Try and find mobile versions of the web sites you use most, as that will reduce your traffic and normally the content is fitted for a smaller screen as well.

Limit your use of GPS and find out specifically if use of WiFi counts against your plan's data usage. If not, then hopefully you work and live in places with wifi access so you can avoid heavy charges.

Thank everyone, at this stage unlimited data is not affordable in SA, but I agree 100mb will not be enough, I'll leave it for now, and see my consumption over a 3month period, then I'll decide where to upgrade to.

The SA version of this phone does not have the android market, and upgrading it now seems impossible, so for now, no new apps for us.

Note: Thanks for moving it to the right section MOD, much appreciated.

You may be able to install the application if you can find the apk file for it.

I'll have a look around and see if I can find one...

so i have a ? about the data plan. currently have a lg voyager (you can feel pity for me later) with the $10 vcast and $15 data plan. ordered the inc. from best buy and will be activating from home. was going to cancel both the vcast and internet data plan the day before but was thinking, if i only cancelled the vcast and activated the new phone will i have the internet access for 15 or is that to much to ask for cosidering its two different type of transmissions (evdo vs 3g). im sure im not the only idiot who thought of this so sure that it is not possible.
