Visual voicemail and Eris

Hello, I'm about to purchase an Eris, and I'm unsure whether I should order the visual voicemail ($3 per month), or is there a good app available. (I don't know why there isn't a website where I can see all the apps available, why must you do it from your handset only?). And either way, does the notification count as a text message? I don't text much, but I might need to buy a higher level text plan if so.

Thanks

I like VVM. I did discover that if I set it to save to the SD card (vs internal memory), I wound up with "download failed" messages more often than not. As far as the notifications, I am fairly certain they don't count against your text messages, but am not 100% certain.

You can view most of the apps available in the market at Androlib.com

You can get Verizon's visual voicemail or use Google Voice (have to wait for a number, invitation only) or Youmail for free. With the other two, you can get text or email notifications of new messages. All three have apps for the phone. The notification for the Verizon vmail is from Verizon so you don't get charged anything.
