I bought mine off ebay a few days ago.. I really wanted a black one... The problem is i'm with o2 and I can't seem to find anyone who can unlock it yet!!

I have order the codes from 2 online unlocker services.. but I have been waiting for 2 days now!!

I am also trying to find ways to debrand my hero and put the htc firmware on it.

Does anyone have info on debranding or unlocking htc hero???

Got mine today and have been playing with it, really cool phone. got it on contract and waiting for them to update my simcard to contract from pay as you go. I can still use the phone, but unable to access android market and gmail account. Probably until the switch over as i think they have to send certain access codes to the phone for that, could be up to a 48 hour wait.

quick view so far:

The web browers is great, multi-touch and auto text reformating works quickly. Flash seems to work, but not fully tested it.

twitter seems to work well and moving things around the screen is easy.

The soft keyboard is good as well.

Same issue here - both unlockers responded saying they couldn't unlock the Hero yet. You had any joy yet?

T-mobile do the black one, got mine yesterday, very nice . I think the graphite one may look a little cooler, but the black has a no nonsense look about it. In a dark alley it would kick the graphites ass (probably because it couldn't see it coming). My last 2 phones have been silver so i needed to return to the darkside

I'm gonna try and pick one up today, cant wait!! The T-mob branding at the top kinda annoys me but I like the black better than the grey!

Have had it three days. Its really neat. Lovely UI. I am concerned the phones mooted slowness though. Browser is good, but flash, as it is, aside from semi static adverts, is a joke... not worth watching. Flash 10 is coming out... This will, in theory give access to full iplayer/bbc news streams/and, for example, ign videos. (beeb player is ok) Will the phone be fast enough to run it? ) (F10 that is, i have heard it may be more accomidating/better written?!) Video playback is already just slightly less than perfect in youtube app. (is this hardware or sftware ting?) I could swear the iphone 3g had flawless youtube playback (with 400 odd mhz processor (maybe graphics processor?) Whatever, It needs a better all round media player. (video/streaming)
P.s phone doesn't really seem laggy (i quite like the clock updating as i'm sure you have seen) I don't have the twitter app running in the background though (i really don't like twitter!! :-D) and i use tasKiller alot.

note: the video circulated of flash 10 in action is of Star Dudes, a simple flash animation. SO very difficult to gauge what kind of phone specs would be needed to smooth video playback... having just watched inglorious basterds trailer on yahoo movies, on of the hero's ability's trumped up by Rich internet applications | Open Screen Project I fear this phone may not be up to it...

I finally managed to get my T-mobile phone unlocked after about 72 hours on saturday night. I used a company called the phone unlockers

I am still trying to find out about debranding or adding the default HTC rom rather than T-Mobile!!

Received my HTC Hero a few days ago, and so far working brilliantly! I got it on an upgrade from T-Mobile, but I'm using it on my Vodafone contract - got the unlock code from T-Mobile.

I've noticed a bit of sluggish behaviour when running between apps, but nothing to really complain about.

Some have put that down to the speed of the SD card, ordered a 8gb class 6 will see if that changes anything. I tend to find it only acts sluggish when its accessing internet as you come out of an app. Got to remember it does a lot of background operations relation to the internet and its nowhere near as bad as what the reviewers made it out to be. They compare it to the iphone which does virtually nothing in the background.

Got it a week ago, black, and love the phone. I never wanted a stupid iphone, and now the answer has arrived! A must for Android lovers! Blows G1 out of the water (that may be a bit overboard!). My ex couldn't wait and now she's stuck with the G1 and wants to theive my G2. Patience is what I tried to tell her, she had to have a new cool phone, and it was dated in less than a month! Hah!!!

G2 is essentially a G1 with a better body, no hardware keyboard, landscape switching automatically, flashier home screen..etc...ok i see the point

Just get her to look up some of those home screen replacements.

Had mine a week now i believe those reviewers were either not using a finished product or since a lot of the reviews were from the state, trying to run it on a edge connection as they are seriously misleading.
