Upgrading Through A Third Party

I'm currently with T-Mobile and I am happy with them. However, it would be an added bonus to have an unbranded handset with no bloatware, which will also mean I don't have to wait for OTA updates. In order to do this I would have to upgrade via a third party such as The Carphone Warehouse. I'm reluctant to do this incase I encounter any problems with the phone and both T-Mobile and the third party palm me off to each other as they both try and get out solving the problem, accepting the phone back, fixing the phone etc.

What are the pros and cons of upgrading via a third party? If I upgrade via a third party will I be able to contact T-Mobile for help and assistance? Or will they tell me to go to the third party?

Any information would be most welcome.

Hi there, I've just upgraded to a one x from DesireHD on orange. I used mobiles.co.uk which is part of carphone warehouse. I also had the DesireHD from them too. As explained to me, within the first 28 days any problems return it too mobiles.co.uk, after that but within the first year return to any carphonewarehouse shop. After that it's HTC for the last year. This is all to do with the actual handset any service problems would be covered by T-Mobile. Never had problems with either handset so can't truly answer you but Mobiles.co.uk is fast next day delivery and as you say handsets are unbranded so no network crap plus you get any updates earlier than the network phones. Chitter Chatter specialise in T-Mobile upgraders. I used them just this last week. I was originally a mobiles.co.uk customer when I bought my HTC Desire on a new T-Mobile contract 2 years ago. I recently called mobiles.co.uk four times asking for help in upgrading and they never called me back (there is apparently a special team for T-Mobile upgraders). Carphone Warehouse (which is their parent company) couldn't offer me anywhere near a competitive deal, although I had a good deal with them on an Android tablet earlier in the year, which involved returning a faulty unit at my local shop and getting a replacement - good service there again. I can't quite fathom why the mobiles team never called me back though.

My only warning about Chitter Chatter is that I seem to have had a less generous deal than another forum member here (name: TV!). I have queried this but, surprise, they are less responsive at getting back to me than when I was negotiating my upgrade.

Also, my HTC Desire needed a warranty repair a few months ago - I simply contacted HTC direct and they arrange for my phone to be collected and repaired - it was collected on a Monday and was back with my on the following Thursday - excellent service.

One last question, can you upgrade through a third party if your current tariff is no longer available to new customers? I know T-Mobile theirself would have to honour the contract if I wish to renew it, but I'm not sure where a third party stands on this particular subject?
