Hi,
Not sure where to post... But i just got a Asus Transformer and Docking station.... My question since i am not great with forum searching(s) is How do I increase music and video playback from both SD and MicroSD slots where they are not jerky....

For instance i got a video on my MicroSD and it seems to lag by 30s or so.... music seems to play fine (i prefer to use the slots I got 2 32gb Cards)

thanks

The format was mp4, but i then converted them to 3gp and they seem to run fine, just blurry....

I got MX player + codecs, and Mobo Player + Codecs.... I tried a few others but they seem to run awful....

Mainly trying to get some of my videos converted so I dont have to stream all them time, exspecially when I am out.... since some hotspots the wifi is rather lackluster...

If there is a good player please let me know, I am rather new still to Android...my first tablet was Ipad but its rather lacking in features

thanks....

It may not be the codec of the files but the SD card itself. Minimum spec's for playing media require a class 6 or higher. If you have a class 4 or 2* you will see jerkey playback no matter how you encode it, unless it's resampled to a very low file size. In that case it will be blurry or pixelated and the sound will be tinny.

*There have been some counterfeit 32 GB MicroSD cards floating about that are sold as class 10 but are really class 2. If you got them cheap, I'd bet they don't live up to the spec.

Thanks

Now how do I tell about the class of the Micro SD card? I never knew that

thanks

If you're lucky, it will be stamped on the card in a small open circle.

Otherwise you you could use a diagnostic app like Sd Tools to check read/write speeds. Basically, the class relates to MB/s, so a class 6 card will read/write around 6 MB/s.

LoL i bought 2 ended up with three of them, i reported it to Tigerdirect and i got to keep it....

So i got 3x class 4 MicroSd cards atm.... I gotta save up for a class 6 no big hurry, If i am desperate for videos... gasp I can use one my non-Asus Tablets or devices

Keep your eyes open on Amazon, I recently got a 32gb class 10 for $23.99.

Can you transfer the files to /mnt/sdcard and play from there? Should be much faster than an actual card.

Sorry, I just rechecked my orders. It was a 32gb class 10 SD (full sized) for $23.99 and a 32gb class 4 uSD for the same price.

Looking though, it seems the class 10 uSDs are around $35.

Update:
I got a class 10 PNY microSD for about $35 that seemed to work with most of the files, a couple still seems to lag behind. Currently the only player i can get to work good is MX player with its codecs....

Whats a good player that offers buffering(?) for mp4s, AVIs, Divx etc? thanks

I purchased two Adata 32gb from Tigerdirect. both failed.

When you say failed, do you mean they were not recognized by your device? or the playback was choppy or the app crashed when you tried to play media?

It would help to know what device you are using and which android version was on it.

Class 4 is about the lowest to use. Also it may be the conversion. One of the best conversion progams I have found is DVD Catalyst.
It has many options and is a very easy to use program.
The dev has a free version that you can use to test, but it only converts part of the DVD.
The cost is reasonable at $10.00, he supports well it and updates it on a regular basis. You can get it from the playstore.

Just an update to this thread. Class 10's can be bought on the cheap now. Newegg (a website I've built my last three desktops by ordering parts from) has a huge list of 16Gig Class 10 cards. Here they are by rating.

Newegg 16 Gig SD Cards by rating

Ignore the Class 4 Kingston at the top (paid advertising I presume). I've used PNY cards before with decent results. I'd guess the Samsung would be good.

The best thing with Newegg is the user reviews. Do lots of reading and you won't go wrong.
