HERE
Hello,
I downloaded Bettercut and have been trying to figure out what everyone is talking about.

I read that its the bomb and great but I cant seem to figure out how to use or why it is.

Can anyone please share the excitement with me???

I don't want to ask for a refund if I am missing something here.

Thanks

i never had a problem when using a alternate home, although not helix specifically (i tried Home++ and Launcher2).

What I did was put the icon on the main homescreen for the app of interest. Then switch to the alternate home and launch bettercut. The icon will show in the list even though it is not on the alternate home yet. Edit the shortcut, and when you are done, the new shortcut was added to the alternate home.

Try and see if that works for Helix?

It does mean you will always show 2 icons in the bettercut list, but meh, at least it worked.

The shortcuts appear on the default homescreen. So they will not show up if you have Helix isntalled and use that by default. I'm trying to find a remedy for this currently.

That is not exactly true, I have both. BetterCut icons are tempermental with Helix, but I did eventually fill all 4 slots with my custom icons. I did have to keep trying a few times. Its behavior does not seem consistent. I am guessing that it has a hard time sensing the area that you're trying to drop the short cut onto. Those spaces turn green when you get the icon over the right spot but the icon does not always end up there.

Vincentp, you can also make custom icons with your own pictures with border and text overlays. The unfortunate thing is that if you use an icon from the icon pack, you can overlay anything on it.

BetterCut isn't a must-have app unless customizing your icon set is paramount to you. It is for me, which is why I didn't buy an iPhone.

For BetterCut and Helix.

Open BetterCut and select "New Shortcut" and then click "No" at the popup. For normal app shortcuts (and abnormal ones!) select Activity and wait (takes it a bit to populate that list of everything). For special shortcuts (like system stuff and bookmarks, direct dials, etc) choose the Other Available Shortcut.

You will need to change the icon and the text on the next screen. Don't save (Create) it until you are done, because it creates duplicates if you go back later and try and Edit one of these shortcuts you create.
Also, it creates these shortcuts on the original Home screen too, so I always launch Home and delete those extra shortcuts that got created.

For me, bettercut NEVER puts the shortcuts on the Helix homescreen. I will be in the Helix launcher, launch bettercut, and make a shortcut and it will be no where in Helix. If I go check the default homescreen, the shortcut is on there, but they are never created on the Helix launcher. It's quite frustrating :/

You need version 1.2, I think. No, you need 1.1 for the shortcut to show up on the homescreen, and with 1.2 you get the custom icon even if you drag it to one of the 4 shortcuts on the app drawer bar.

EDIT: not sure about Helix2 though, in case that is what you are using. That doesn't work on the Droid, except maybe with the cyanogenmod rom.

Well I don't know what version I have, but I just went to marketplace to get the latest helix. and i installed it, it resulted in a constant never-ending force-close. Yes I got the one for Droid. Wtf is the problem :/

If you search "helix" in the market, which one is it that you have?

Also, what rom are you using? Are you using a stock Droid?

That sucks. :(
Is anyone else with BB having issues? That's his new rom, right? Based on ese53? I've read the thread over at xda-developers, but I forget. I don't recall BB having issues though.

Well I uninstalled and reinstalled it and now it seems to be working. Apparently (I think) it installed over my previous version and kept the data, which f'd it up. So now that I reinstalled it fresh, its working. Bleh I hate this new one, what was wrong w/ the app drawer handle before? why did he have to change it to the little boxes? Whatever, at least I can create shortcuts w/ bettercut now :/ Thanks a lot for the help mang!

I like it better. You can skin it by unpacking the apk file, replacing the png and repacking it again - or something like that. I think you can do it with winrar (unpack and re-pack the apk).
