Dismal battery life?

Need to find what's keeping my phone awake and sucking the life out of it.

So I have my Elite set up pretty much the way I had my V with using the same widgets on my home screens.
I know that widgets can suck battery power to use, but never really had issues with the battery life on the V. I

Battery is still dropping fast.
A lot of awake time with no screen being on.....

This might make a difference between this phone and the V. Since the V was rooted I ran Droid Wall and blocked access to apps that did not need it.

I hate to do it since I have the apps I want and everything customized on the phone the way I like, but may have to factory reset. Add no apps and see how it does for a day, then start adding 2-4 apps a day and see what happens.

Also had this happen twice to me, once yesterday and once this morning. Hit the power button to turn the screen on and nothing happen. Held it down, still nothing. First time it happened yesterday I thought maybe the battery was exhausted. Pulled the battery and put it back in both times and booted up fine with plenty of power left.

Seems some app must have fubared the phone...

Did you check your TWS? I was fine all day long at home with it on Wi-Fi but when I left the house to get the kids, my Elite started getting really hot and was discharging pretty fast. I popped it into airplane mode and back out and it seemed to be okay. When I got home tonight TWS had dropped from 30% to 18%.

From the next picture I noticed that using Y-5 and turning the screen off still allows the connection to WIFI. May just put a widget to toggle WIFI on and off easier and uninstall Y-5.

At lunch time when I read about the TWS bug I place the phone in airplane mode and then off. Then I decided to installed the Toggle AirplaneMode On Boot app and restarted the phone.
This is when the battery curve leveled off more and thought that maybe the problem was corrected. But then you can see the phone decided to take a nose dive again with a lot of awake time and no screen on.....

Just got done switching over to the new Elite phone.
Failed when downloading Essentials which is a bunch of crap apps anyway.
I hope this one works.

Need to find out fast. If this one drops like a rock gotta switch back to the V.
I have to check if I can switch on the 27th or if that means I would have to go to the $35.00 plan. If so I have one day to find out...

vjimmyy,
How quickly does your battery drain?
Mine would be down to 20% in 8- 9hrs.

mine did this today as well. at 40% by noon, running very hot. Google maps at 70% battery useage, but killing it doesn't help. TWS is 1%

Off-topic, but elgecko, how did you take those screen caps?

First you need an screen shot app, You could try Screenshot UX Trial until you find one you really like.
You need to use a app like photo bucket to upload and save the image to it's web site. It will give them 4 different URL's. The one to use is the img url. Select the image url and save it to your clipboard. Then just past it into the post.
If you ever delete it from photo bucket it will not show in the post though.

I use clipbot which will allow me to save multiple url's to the clipboard and past them all at the same time. This works great if you want to show all the different types of screens for a theme you have made or like. You can show the home screen, telephone screen, settings screen, pull down and past them all at once.

EDIT: Nija'd by elgecko. I think i"m going to have to check out the software you mentioned after taking a peak at it. It looks pretty darn good.
Ok I've seen them in the market, duh!

If you find a screen capture app that works on a non rooted phone, let me know. I tried a few different ones that said may work on an unrooted phone, but they did not.
Tried Screenshot UX and it did not work on my phone. When I tried it I did not reboot it, if that would make a difference....

Man, this battery life is killing me. All I'm trying to run is my weather widget, Evernote widget, and the Go Launcher theme. My battery on the back is running hot and after a full charge it will be at %20 in like 6 hours. I tried uninstalling all the crap it comes with. Then if I stop a program that autostarts it will just restart. Wi-fi and blutooth helps but not at the rate I'm experiencing.

@eglecko

i havent actually measured time on/battery % exactly yet, ive just been charging it bit by bit throughout the day.

the first day i had it i was checking out gmaps to see how much faster the processor was and was glad to see it worked a lot faster over wifi. later on though, my battery was tanking like crazy and i saw batt usage by maps was like 70% even tho i exited the app and even force stopped it. restarted it later that evening and it stopped that from happening.

now ive just been noticing that i have to charge it periodically more often than my OV but ill have to check tomorrow to see waht the uptime vs batt % is.

My OV was able to go about 3 days with minimal usage but with my OE it lasts only about 12 hours. i guess its still pretty long but i dont have wifi/bluetooth/gps/sync on and i just guess i thought it'd last longer.

I've been very pleased with mine so far. Today it has been unplugged for nearly 16 hours now. Battery is at 37% with moderate use - about 6 minutes of phone calls, numerous texts, maybe an hour each of game playing and web surfing. I have wifi and 3g enabled at all times. GPS only when needed. Virgin service in my area is pretty iffy with generally slow 3g rates, but pretty good voice coverage. I have to laugh at the terms of service statement that data rates will be limited to 256 kbps after using more than 2.5GB of data. I usually get around that at "full" speed. I was sorely tempted to wait for the EVO since there is WiMAX coverage here, but in the end I went with the less expensive phone and my grandfathered $25 plan. I've lost 3g service completely once or twice, but that happened with the V now and then, too. Toggling airplane mode for a few seconds or rebooting the phone fixes it every time. Other than that no issues to report. Maybe I've just been fortunate. I never had any major issues with the V, either. I am jealous of the download speeds my wife gets on her AT&T iphone on HSPA+, but not jealous enough to pay $90 a month plus $200 for the phone. My battery life beats hers, too - and Siri is annoying.

It looks like the new phone may be behaving better. I have not placed any apps on it yet.
Started out with around 89% battery and has been on for 6 1/2 hrs and down to 64% battery left. Thats about 25% drop. So if that continues after 18 hrs should have around 25% battery at the end of the day. I will be very happy with performance like that.
Time to go to sleep and fully charge it and see how it does tomorrow. The only problem where I plan on kayaking tomorrow does not look to have cell service.....

TX-Dennis,
Check out Vlingo for Android. Use it to read and send text messages to the wife driving home from work occasionally. Never have to look at the screen.

Decided to add a photo of a much better looking battery curve.

My phone got a workout today. Up at 3 am. On the road at 4. Drove 200 miles. Went for a 3 mile hike in the mountains with my son. Used GPS essentials to map our hike (about 2 hours). A couple of phone calls and a few texts. Unplugged now for 16.5 hours. Battery is at 37% Maps is the biggest user at 38%, GPS Essentials second at 20%, Cell Standby 16%, Phone Idle 14, WiFi 10, Display 3.

Left GPS on all day. Not half bad.
